Why hate Shyamalan?

I liked both 6S and Unbreakable. I thought Signs was MST3K material.

I agree wholeheartedly with Cervaise here. He is a great director and a mediocre to bad writer that made such a splash with his first picture that he could write whatever lame thing he wanted that nobody would censor him. I would love to see him direct other people’s stories.

To the people that defend Signs saying the aliens weren’t the focus of the movie: I understand that. I just don’t think that’s an excuse for him to let so many plot holes and logic flaws in the movie. He could make his movie about Mel’s family and his return to faith without abusing so much the audience’s intelligence.

Has anyone else heard that Unbreakable was supposed to be the first part of a trilogy? If it’s true, in my opinion, that explains a lot.

I loved The Sixth Sense. Didn’t get the twist five minutes in, either. I was very disapointed by Unbreakable and I think it was the weakest of the three, IMO, but it still had some very high quality parts to it. I went into Signs thinking it was going to suck because of the bad reviews I’d heard, and was pleasantly surprised. Yeah, it had problems. The main one that springs to my mind is the pacing, which was ineffectively slow in the begining.

But I’m wondering, what are these giant plot holes people keep referring to? I can’t really remember any. Payton’s Servent mentioned a few, but Miller pointed out that they were invalid.

There is the aliens-flying-all-the-way-to-Earth-without-knowing-water-will-kill-them-thing, but perhaps they had simply never landed on a planet with water before? Or, more likely, they knew there was a bunch of water there but that didn’t stop them from invading? As for humidity in the air, probably it just wasn’t enough to kill em. After all there are many things poisonous to humans and other living things that won’t be fatal in small doses.

The other possible hole someone pointed out which gave me some thought was how they had leg muscles powerful enough so they could jump very high, but not kick down a wooden door. I don’t really remember then having super strong legs, but I’m not saying they didn’t, I just don’t remember it.

RE the aliens not looking scary…I’m not sure why everyone expects them to. Just because they’re alien, and the “bad guys” doesn’t mean they have to look like the creatures from “Alien”. I thought they were nothing great, but decent at least, and I liked how… the alien at the end was freaking out and a human-like way instead of your typical stoic, moving-slowly-as-if-through-water alien..

Anyway, just curious which plot holes are being referenced here since no examples are being cited.
