Caveat that I haven’t read all 640 replies, but in the SDMB liberals can be flagrantly abusive of conservatives, eg calling them MAGATs, but the reverse doesn’t seem to hold true. Responding that an opinion holder, who is not directly a SDMB poster, is suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome is unfriendly. However, the correlation between MAGAT and maggot is even more unfriendly. MAGAT seems to be acceptable. Trump Derangement Syndrome seems to be unacceptable.
I enjoy robust debate. It’s hard arguing against 10-1 odds, but that’s part of the fun. But when one side can be flagrantly abrasive, but the other side has to deal with administrative difficulties perhaps related to the abrasive terms they’ve used, it seems unfair.
I’m sure you’ll have no problem pointing us to all the responses about an opinion holder, who is not directly a SDMB poster, is suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome resulting in administrative difficulties.
Actually in this Pit thread, the only mention of MAGATs comes from you and a poster that commented to a reasonable conservative (that are still here), that does see what Trump is doing to the nation and the world and rejects what he is doing. His comment was to show that indeed, there is a difference between a reasonable conservative vs a crazy MAGA.
The real Trump derangement syndrome is to willfully and actively and maliciously ignore the things that he is doing that lead to deaths and other bad things.
You enjoy robust debate? Bullshit.
Your sources and people that you follow do tell you to ignore that and many other things, and since I lost my job that was part of the Unemployment Office in Arizona, thanks to the cut in federal money, spare me your ignorant reply here.
I just see in you what others that claimed to be conservatives in the SDMB did: one that departed the boards even wanted to bet against me in debates about the ACA (Obamacare), while I explained that it saved my life when I encountered a bad infection, and at that time I was so ill that I could die then.
Really, even here the ones that claim to be MAGA (They were Teabaggers then) do not care if a Doper (or many others) will die thanks to the kind of politicians they support and vote for.
I was going to mention that. Posters objected to the term “teabaggers”, and use of it stopped, or at least went way down. On the other hand, it’s been pointed put that “Democrat Party” is incorrect, and that still seems to be used with some regularity.
I mean, I won’t call Romney conservatives cryptofascists, and I won’t call Thom Tillis a neo-Nazi; but we’re at a unique period in American history where masked secret police are abducting people from the streets to send them to “Alligator Alcatraz” where the Party Leader jokes about them being eaten alive by wild animals, and a majority of Republicans approve of this behavior. This is not normal, and it’s inappropriate for us to treat this like normal, or for anyone to ask us to treat these authoritarians like a reasonable and respectable voice of opposition. Calling Trump-supporters fascist isn’t an insult, any more than calling Mao supporters Communists is an insult.
Because conservatives are genuinely evil and irrational. It’s not possible to honestly discuss conservatives without being insulting; even the most neutral description of them and their positions is insulting, because they are simply just that awful. Being “polite” about conservatives requires lying in their favor.
And a lot of people are tired of lying in favor of people who want to oppress and kill them.
Except if defined by the way most people actually use the word. I’m afraid that ship has already sailed; “conservative” is now a synonym for “malignant radical reactionary”.
If there are instances where conservatives (as defined by past standards which now seem quaint) are being unfairly jeered at as MAGA despite rejecting Trump cultism, that needs to be called out. But I don’t see it happening.
The fact that this is an acceptable standard of argument on the board by many here pretty much answers the thread. Would you want to participate on this board as a Conservative if you had to deal with this constantly from multiple users?
Remember we’re in the Pit where Der_Trihs’ has refined how to phrase his peculiar take on how we will be certainly exterminated in painful ways for conservative pleasure, in a manner that breaks no rule. It annoys me but I just roll my eyes and carry on.
Show me a recent honest attempt to support the conservative movement without lying about what they are actually doing and what they wish to accomplish, and you have an actual argument. The unsubstantiated claims by Wrenching_Spanners certainly do not fit the bill.
What I used to call Democrats, now I call “Progressives”
What I used to call Conservatives, now I call “Democrats”.
What I used to call Republicans, now I call “Fascists”.
I don’t believe in mocking labels.
If you aren’t an espouser of the New Fascist Party, then you are probably a Democrat, even if you think of yourself as a Republican, or an Independent.
There aren’t any Independents in this country. There are only Fascists who are still pretending they aren’t, and people who are so ignorant it’s a wonder they’re alive. The ones who say they can’t tell the difference between the parties. The others fall into one of the more liberal categories.
