Why have conservatives left this message board?

I call myself an independent because I’ve lived my whole life in New York and Florida where you have to register with a party in order to vote in primaries. I registered as an independent, so that’s what I call myself. I’m not going to change doing that just because I can count the number of times I’ve voted or even thought about voting for a Republican on one hand.

Conservatives did not leave this board because the rules changed-they leave (and left) this board because the rules didn’t change to fit the change in power. Because they are actually succeeding outside of this board by not caring for those they used to say they care for, by making baseless (and ofttimes totally ridiculous claims) and doubling down when confronted, by openly having rallies that espouse hatred and bigotry, by ripping away the veneer of civility that acted as a lubricating agent of sorts to keep us at arms length they actually believe they don’t have to follow the previous rules and regulations of this private message board that they supposedly agreed to when they joined.
They don’t leave or are forced out because of their politics. They leave or are forced out because they want to follow their new path of “Rules For You, But Not For Me”…and they can’t.

Perhaps the cost of “friendship” is too high a price to pay, because there doesn’t seem to be a difference between that and “capitulation”.

Is that why @Bone left?

I have to admit I was psyched at the time, though. I was probably wrong - the board is worse now in many ways.

I have had enough of the constant “always questions and claims, but with nothing to back it up” bullshit. If you want to claim that @Bone left for some other reason, state your cites/facts or just STFU.

Right. They can’t make a decent argument to support what their party has become. They can’t make an argument for why they support Trump. But their racism and bigotry shows.

Why would a ‘patriot’ or any person in the US support someone that wants to destroy democracy and burn it all down? The billionaires are doing it because they get more of what they already have too much of. Much of it seen in the Leopards eating faces thread. Why do those people support him? They are being destroyed by him.

Now Trump, himself might really believe that he is the smartest person in the room. Which is proof that he is the dumbest (not that we need any more proof).

There is the basic question: Should conservatives, due to their somewhat rarity on this board, have rules loosened for them to more accurately reflect their “wins” outside this board?

There’s the endangered species angle. Should cats be kept indoors more to preserve increasingly rare birds?

I’m pretty sure @bone left before my time. This is the pit. Why do you think bone left?

UTA: last post 2019. So maybe i just never really noticed him.

I’m not particularly conservative and I can’t stand a number of posters on this board. I also get tired of the apparent double standard of allowable attacks and dehumanizing language. Frankly, there are maybe a dozen users I think the board as a whole would be better off without but since they’ll never be banned all I can do is ignore them. It is funny when it results in strings of two dozen plus hidden posts in some threads.

Point it out
Show it.
Cite it.
Back it the fuck up.

Because multiple people, myself included, were being huge raging jerks to him, over his political beliefs.

For what it’s worth, in my 25 years here, I don’t know I’ve ever seen @Der_Trihs persuade a single poster of anything political. My impression is that the overwhelming number of lefties just pay no attention to him, as I don’t. I find his OTT screams to be tedious and distracting from substantive conversations. I also think he’s in a category of one, at least on this board.

I say that while also believing that MAGA is an actual fascistic movement.

We don’t have to wonder why @Bone left - he posted about it in detail:

@Bone also posted a bunch about his problems with the board on this snark thread from another board:

Part of the problem is that sometimes people engage in contentious discussions seemingly more for the cathartic release it gives them rather than because they’re interested in having a debate on the issues. For instance, imagine someone says they think there are too many restrictions on gun ownership. Rather than having a discussion about what restrictions that person thinks are excessive and why they think that, some members will pounce on that person and take out all their anger and frustration about guns in general. Some people get very emotional about certain topics and will be combative and denegrating towards the person discussing it. As such, any conservative poster who isn’t interested in being subjected to that kind of treatment probably won’t want to express their opinion, or if they do, won’t want to stick around and discuss it.

When you say “some people”, which side are you referring to…considering your vague examples?
For instance, when someone says that they are against more restrictions on gun ownership, the usual response here is to ask for more clarification first. If the automatic reply is a knee-jerk “I am being treated so unfairly!!!”, that usually means that no actual debate is anywhere within 100 miles of that thread. I am so sorry that the usual treatment found in too many other places of “I know what you mean. They Dems just want to grab our guns!!” when vague statements like that are made aren’t usually found here…but if it makes you feel any better, for the most part both sides are treated the same.

It’s really more of a problem with people in general. Even if conservatives and liberals were just the same about this, there are so many more liberals here that it’s going to seem one sided. It’d be like if I went to the forums at KateBushMusic.com and posted that I don’t like her music. While some members there would be open to discussing why that is, some other posters would take it as a personal attack and lash out at me just for stating that opinion. Since that’s a place where most everyone there is a fan of her music, there will be a relatively large amount of people who will take it as an attack and would be lashing out. I wouldn’t stick around and be able to hear other people explain why her music is good and how I might appreciate it. I’d just leave and continue to not like her music. On the other hand, if I went to 80sMusic.com and posted the same thing, the discussions would be more balanced. There might still be the rabid fans, but it wouldn’t be one sided. There’d be a good number of people who liked or disliked her music, so it wouldn’t seem like I’m being ganged up upon for my opinion. For music it doesn’t really matter if someone lives in a one-sided bubble, but the real world has real people who have varied opinions on social issues. Without people taking up conservatives viewpoints here, we lose the opportunity to change their minds. And also, the one-sided discussions tend to lean towards utopian solutions rather than things that would work in the real world.

How about, for example, you give us an actual example?

From what I read from that poster, I think the difference is now that you largely agree with them polically. You still act like a huge raging jerk to people you disagree with.

You have been radicalized into embracing the right because you think they are the enemy of your enemies, for good or for bad.

The lack of a right-leaning version of Der Trihs who has lasted as long is proof. We all know if one does appear the banhammer is soon to follow.
