In all of the stories and blogs and such that I’ve read, one thing is starkly absent; any press releases or indicated actions by the internal affairs departments in question. Are these departments so toothless and pointless by this point in time that they aren’t even worth a mention, as in “Captain Murphy of Buffalo Internal Affairs, what is your take on the recent accusations of police brutality?”
My understanding is that due to union regulations these investigations are confidential. Further, as the Buffalo officers are facing criminal charges, it makes sense not to publicly comment as a defense attorney at trial would accuse them of “rushing to judgment” something that will be of great help to those officers in Minneapolis, unfortunately.
IA departments normally take months to investigate cases. It wouldn’t occur to me to see reports from any this quickly.
“Pointless” and “not worth a mention” sums it up rather nicely. The police cannot police the police–omerta, and all.
