Why hello there, Dark Age! Been a while, hasn't it?

Acoording to this article, there is a resolution that has already been approved by the Louisiana House Education Committee, and which will soon go before the full House, that condemns Charles Darwin and evolution as racist.

The Representative sponsoring the resolution supports her completely indefensible position by saying, “Darwin teaches that some humans have evolved further than others.”

On the contrary. Evolution does not teach racial superiority. If anything, research stemming from the theory has shown over and over again that humans of all races are virtually identical in terms of genetic makeup.

This is the most unbelievable piece of dishonest filth I’ve ever heard concerning the theory of evolution. At least if it were a Chick tract, I would have no problem in laughing it off. This is much more subtle and insidious, and can’t help but have a real impact on people who hear about it, and aren’t familiar with the truth of the theory of evolution.

Despite the fact that this does not constitute law, per se, it comes from a source of authority and influence. It will impact public opinion. Some people will swallow it hook, line, and sinker, simply because they are predisposed to disagree with evolution on religious grounds.

The disingenuity and willful dishonesty implicit in this resolution disgusts me.

So much for the Age of Reason.

So… last year a Louisiana school district fails in its attempt to have teachers read a disclaimer about evolution and now they want to condemn it for being racist? lol
Anything to protect creationism, learnin’ be damned!
Couldnt get the link to work, BTW.

Actually, I was tutoring someone in Western Civilization the other day, talking about Social Darwinism and she said:

“People like Darwin should never have been born!”

I asked her why, and she pointed to all the horrible things that Social Darwinism had resulted in. With my wonderful scientific background, I took a couple of minutes to explain that Darwin wasn’t racist, he was a scientist whose theories were misinterpreted. She was absolutely shocked.

Looks like she wasn’t the only one who was misinformed.

absoul, I’m not sure what the problem is concerning the link…it works fine for me both at home and at work. Here’s the URL anyway.

LaurAnge, good for you! Did your student express any interest in learning more about Darwin? Chalk one little chunk of ignorance up as fought.

On the other hand, Ogre, I think the Louisiana Legislature is living proof that some humans have not evolved as far as others.
