Like I said, this can be easily dealt with by ignoring it. If Obama makes speeches where he claims to see ghosts, or when he doesn’t know how many states there are in the Union, then it is perfectly legitimate to paint him as stupid. You can call it racism if you like, but it is no different than the treatment any other politician is going to get if he/she runs for President.

You’ve managed to completely ignore the actual point. Good job

Republican Presidents are always painted as stupid.

I don’t remember GHWBush being painted as stupid. And while he was before my time, I don’t think anyone ever said it about Nixon. GWBush, definitely. Reagan, yes although less so.
Do you honestly believe that the reason people think GWBush is dumb is just that he’s a republican president? Not anything about his actions, statements, mannerisms, personal history, etc.?

I can’t speak for Shodan, but I’ll readily acknowledge that Bush 43’s accent, awkward malapropisms, and poor public delivery of speeches plays a big role.
Every President is defined by some quick, easy shortcut. Bush 43 is an idiot. Clinton is a womanizer. Bush 41 is meek and mild. Reagan is addled. Carter is sweet and ineffectual. Ford is clumsy. Nixon is paranoid and conniving. Johnson is mean.
And so on, down the line. It matters not that Ford was a collegiate All-Star football player and near-scratch golfer. He was clumsy, and that was that.

It’s mostly selective perception, as I believe you are saying.
Obama says that there are 57 states in the Union, but he’s not stupid. McCain can’t remember if al-Qaeda is Sunni or Shi’ite, and he’s senile/dumb.
I kind of doubt if good communication skills can prevent this from happening (to Republicans). Reagan was the Great Communicator, and it still happened to him.
Ah well. It will be interesting to see what insulting short cut will be assigned to Obama (if he makes it to the White House). I think the “senile” or “PTSD” label is what will slapped on McCain.

As I recall, Obama said something that could’ve been construed (at least, by those who wanted to misconstrue it) to mean that he thinks there are 57 states- once.
How many times has McCain mixed up the Sunnis and the Shi’ites? Even after being corrected?

 Please. Obama said it once, and for all we know, he meant to say counties or campaign stops or what not. I think it’s safe to say he knows there are 50 states and it was a one-time-only mindfart slip-of-the-tongue.
McCain has made the Sunni/Shi’ite flub multiple times, even after being publicly corrected on the matter.
To claim that the two are analogous is highly disingenuous (if not thoroughly dishonest).

The fact is that, as Obama spoke in Oregon, he had been to 47 states explaining that he had one more to go, since he wasn’t going to Alaska or Hawaii. His concentration was on the one’s digit, as evidenced by a long pause after the tens digit. And so it was a mere slip of the tongue — a difference between the phonemes “or” and “if” in “forty” and “fifty”. It happened once, and never again.
McCain, on the other hand, told reporters in Jordan that Iranian terrorists were “taking al-Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back”, after which Lieberman corrected him. Before, he had commited the error on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, when Lieberman was not there to fix it. In fact, he made the error two more times — four times over two days.
It is understandable that the ordinary walking around idiot can’t distinguish these two events, but the fact that you cannot is … well, incredible.

This is what is meant by “selective perception”. AKA IOKIDDI.

Gotcha, so in your mind, 1= Many. That is very selective in its perception. Funny how you turn generously liberal when it comes to how you define your terms.
