If tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?
if Boise, Troy State, Houston, Temple, and the rest of the so-called “Have-Nots” got pissed off and decided to make their very own division a decided on a National Championship. Would anyone notice? would anyone care?
The BCS needs to get out of everything but the national championship (which is an entirely different problem). Why do we bother with this complex selection system and the BCS status stamp of approval if the bowls are just going to pick whoever they want (within the loose rules) anyways? They should just go back to conference tie ins and pick whoever the hell they want. It might not be fair but its honest.
Seriously though, the ACC gets two teams in the BCS and the Big 12 only one? Ridiculous.
The “BCS conferences” would notice, and probably celebrate, as that gets rid of the chance of having to pay millions of dollars of “their” money to a “minor conference” because one of its teams got into a BCS bowl game.
As for care - does anyone “care” who the current NCAA Division I Football Champion (i.e. the FCS champion, but the trophy says “NCAA Division I” without further distinction; in fact, the primary reason of changing I-A and I-AA to FBS and FCS was to call the FCS tournament the “NCAA Division I football tournament”) is? You might as well push them all the way down into FCS.
