I was listening to the news on NPR the other day, and of course there was a story about Lewis “Scooter” Libby…presented by reporter Libby Lewis! There was that half-second pause just before the announcer said the reporter’s name. It just made my day! The teasing that woman must be getting in the newsroom now! All her years of hard work and achievement, the awards, the accolades, all pale because she has the perfect name for the story! Good thing she’s an outstanding journalist…I’d hate to think what would have happened if she’d been some off-air employee who was shoved up to reporter just because of her name.
OK, I admit, I heard that one, too.
The pause right before the name seemed to me to be one of those ‘moments of realization’ for the announcer and an attempt not to laugh.
It’s an interesting juxtaposition, you have to admit.
Morning Edition has a bit more fun with the coincidence here, including a gaff by an NPR reporter.
The bit on Libby Lewis and Lewis Libby starts at 1 minute 28 seconds.
