Why I love the Honda Accord

Thanks everyone for the heads-up.

This thread makes me feel so good. I inherited my mom’s 1991 Accord last year, with 107,000+ miles on it.

It shakes a bit when you put it in reverse, and last month one of the rear lights burned out, but other than that, it’s fine. I was actually getting worried about it being in such good shape at its age. ("Cars aren’t supposed to last this long, right? It’s going to die any minute, isn’t it? Isn’t it??? )

I have a 1992 Honda Civic with 119,000 miles, that is still running fine, but has some exterior damage that I never took care of. BTW…it’s for sale if anyone wants it. I haven’t driven it hardly at all (like 20 miles in the last 8 months), since I got my 2001 Nissan Sentra SE. It was a great little car…did tons of trips between here and Ohio, where my family lives.

When I bought my new car, it came down to a new Civic LX or a Sentra SE…both about the same price, but I decided on the Sentra because it had a more powerful engine, a nicer interior, a better sound system, better handling, better brakes…in the end, as much as I wanted to stay with Honda, Nissan just offered me a lot more for the same price…and they make reliable cars too.

I haven’t bought a car with less than 100,000 miles on it in 10 years. They just depreciate too quickly. I figure, if it made it this far, and it’s still in good shape, at least I know it’s not a lemon. Because it’s used, I can usually afford to either pay cash, or get a real short term loan on it. Once it’s paid off, I reduce the insurance coverage to just liability. I save literally thousands of dollars, so I can afford to just buy another car if I need to.
