Why is Diamonds02 limited to starting one new thread per week?

Um, no. Because whoever said I contacted Ellen Cherry is lying.

Then update your profile. You’re required to maintain an active email address.

Well, someone is wrong here.

Marley has said that Diamonds asked for more specifics by email and was told to stick to one email per week.

Diamonds has said that is wrong as they never contacted anyone by email.

Marley responds with a diversionary message stating to make sure your email is available.

Which is the correct story? (Not that I really give a bugger).

I direct your attention here, Diamonds02:

Those are from your “Bieber haircut” thread. Ellen Cherry said you contacted her but perhaps she was mistaken and was thinking of that post. She did say she emailed you with the once-per-week instruction. If your email isn’t active and you didn’t see the message… well, that’s why you are required to keep your email active. That’s your responsibility, so please update your account now. If you just failed to get the email instead of ignoring an instruction, that’s good. Either way you’re expected to abide by Ellen Cherry’s instructions from here on out.

[lawandorder]Is it because she’s a lesbian?[/lawandorder]

… I see what I was about to was made moot by Marley’s latest reply.

I haven’t used email in ages, for any reason. I can create a new one I guess. That still doesn’t change the fact that I have never contacted Ellen Cherry on or off the boards.

Now, do I SEEM like someone who would ask a mod for permission to do something? Furthermore, going out my way to contact one by email?

I did jokingly ask what was her idea of me “easing up” on posting threads, in a thread last week. Nothing more than that.

Yes, it’s possible. I’m trying to straighten that out. I just quoted a post where Diamonds02 asked for clarification about the instruction and maybe that is what was being referred to.

Oh, “jokingly.” Since the mod note was not a joke, Ellen Cherry took your question seriously and gave you an answer. And yes, create a new active email account, associate it with your Straight Dope address, and check it.

So do you think it’s fair to get a warning and THEN be told for the first time that you got a warning for something that you’ve never been told before?

Because that seems to be the case until Ellen Cherry can clear things up.

If Ellen Cherry sent an email to Diamonds02 but her email isn’t up to date and therefore did not see the email then that is entirely Diamonds02 fault* and the warning should stand.

*I once got blocked from posting because I had changed my email and then a month or so later I asked a mod a question and they tried to email me their answer but it didn’t go through because the old one didn’t exist anymore. So they PM’d me saying so and asking me to update my email. I did and emailed the mod with the new one and the next day I was able to post again.

I’m taking the wildest of guesses here that this was not a “joking” comment.

FYI, I am still bothered by restricting one of most entertaining if bizarre thread originators.

She’s like an internet version of a “job creator”. Doesn’t she provide you with more work? :stuck_out_tongue:

Looking at the mod emails again, I think I did misunderstand what Ellen Cherry wrote. She said that Diamonds02 asked for clarification on the earlier mod note and she said she provided that clarification by email, but she didn’t say Diamonds02 sent her an email. I hope that clears everything up.

Hello all! Sorry I was out and about today and really busy yesterday evening, and I couldn’t really write on the boards. I spoke with Marley, though, via IM.

I think it’s all straight now, but here is what happened.

  1. I noted Diamonds telling her to ease up, in the thread
  2. She asks, in the thread, what is “ease up.”
  3. Rather than continue the conversation in the thread, I attempted to PM her with the information. She has her settings set to not receive PMs.
  4. I send her an email telling her that she does need to ease up, and I am defining that as no more than one per week.

She didn’t contact me; I contacted her attempting to make our position completely clear.

One per week is still too damn many if you ask me.

I was seriously disappointed when she decided not to look for a different message board.

Sigh. One can dream.

So, Ellen, what you’re saying is that you’re ***not ***a wicked witch of a moderator who just issues out warnings for no reason at all?

Now what am I going to do with this pyre I had all set up!

Pizza deliveries are going to be a lot faster now! Thank you Ellen!

Why? Unlike other posters she mostly stays to her own threads, there is no disruptin at all.

And for the rest of us it’s quite fun to watch a diamonds thread, they’re guaranteed to be a little bit silly but also have a nugget of, erm, I wouldn’t quite call it truth - maybe “thoughtful point”?

Let’s split the difference and say opinions on these threads are mixed. Even if you like them there’s still the concept of too much of a good thing. And the threads aren’t going away. We told her to start no more than one a week instead of a new one every day.

I brought 'smores.
