Same as the rest of the GOP cowards. Toe the line or get primaried.
I’m still a little unclear on the whole Trump-was-an-undercover-informant-for-the-FBI thing. Trump claimed that he had no contact with Epstein after 2004. If Trump had gathered incrimnating evidence against Epstein, why did it take 15 more years before he was arrested (including 2 years after Trump was president)?
Also, how did Epstein die? If the President was squeaky clean in the whole affair, there was no reason to kill him.
I heard that Epstein was hitting on the daughters of club members, so trump gave him the heave-ho. I mean, trying to get laid is one thing but that’s bad for business.
Epstein was investigated starting around 2005 and went to jail in 2008 - but with a special right to treat jail as an optional visit in his regular day - for a sentence of 18 months (served 13). He was later charged again, under Trump, and that’s where he ended up dying.
Trump’s quote about Epstein liking girls on the “younger side” is from 2002:
Trump appears to have removed Epstein from the Mar-a-Lago membership list in 2007. This would be already two years into the investigation and 5 years since Trump might have had some inkling about his friend’s habits.
In any of Trump’s tellings, he had only just become aware that Epstein was going after the girls in the area (either the poach them as employees or for more nefarious reasons), at the point where he kicked him out of Mar-a-Lago (again, 2007). There’s no particular reason to believe, to date, that Trump had notified the authorities nor talked to them at any point before nor leading up to 2007.
Trump did talk to Bradley Edwards, a lawyer for some of the girls, in 2009, and gave information that aided their lawsuit. In the public record, this is the first time that we know of where Trump talked to someone and gave them information.
Particularly since the whole thing is supposed to be a hoax by the Democrats.
I have heard that Epstein has had relations with Melania. Trump probably had no idea for years and went ballistic when he found out. Then again, it could have been that Epstein claimed a girl that Trump took a shine to and this was the thing that sent Trump over the edge. It’s too bad there isn’t a bunch of documentation to tell us what actually happened.
I dont think he was, but of course he could have “dropped a dime” on Epstein
I was trying to be facetious in my previous post, but maybe I was too subtle. I don’t believe for a moment that Trump worked under cover for the FBI. However, if he did, he was as bad at it as he is at everything else. Trump’s masked goons can take hundreds of immigrants off the street every day, but with him on the case, it took 15 years to get a pedophile friend of his off the street?
Just saw a news item somewhere (Bluesky?) that Mike Johnson is now walking back the FBI informant thing.
[Googles]
Ah, just saw a 20-minutes-old link to a WashPost story saying that. It’s paywalled for me so I can’t follow it up.
Conflicting versions of what happened is a mainstay of Trump’s defense of anything. “I don’t have the records, now I have some of the records but I gave them back to you, yes I have the records but I’m allowed to have them.” His camp throws out the first excuse they can think of and keeps changing their story until it either muddies the water or his moron followers accept it.
Johnson’s position as speaker isn’t as precarious as it was in the past, but he know he’s got to keep Trump happy.
Here’s a gift link:
People here like to say Trump is stupid, which I challenge. But if you want to look for stupid, Johnson saying Trump was a FBI informant sure looks like it. You’d think by now that Johnson would know that Trump has a mafia mentality and thus would not admit to being a rat.
Because most people actually do think raping children is wrong?
Sure, there’s a hard core of MAGA freaks who are willing to deny or accept this. But the reason that pointing at them in horror/mockery is a viable angle on the story is because most people disagree with them. 49% of voters rejected Trump in the first place and a lot of people who voted for him were just lifelong Republicans who want lower taxes. The actual cultists are a minority. Anyone who thought “most people will go along with finding out the president raped children” at any time was completely out of touch with reality.
Says it not his signature! ….Incredible! More so than “ I did not inhale”!
It’s paywalled, so all I can see is this:
Lawyers for Jeffrey Epstein’s estate have given Congress a copy of the birthday book put together for the financier’s 50th birthday, which includes a letter with President Trump’s signature that he has said doesn’t exist.
Unless there’s something else in the article, I don’t see a denial that the signature is his. I just see that Trump says the card that is pictured doesn’t exist.
The denials are flying fast and furious now:
Well, yeah. Sure.
But this message board largely comprises people who actually seek out, care about, and focus on facts.
We’re not the audience for these denials.
I think I’ve posted this before:
On January 6, Republican Congress Critters Mike Lee (R-UT) and Chip Roy (R-TX) were texting with White House Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows, begging Meadows to tell them what to do and say. Lee repeatedly pressed Meadows for the “talking points,” meaning: he was asking Meadows what he could possibly say that would justify and excuse what was happening on that day, and the White House’s failure to stop it dead in its tracks.
Trump supporters behave in the exact same way right now, begging Trump and his operatives to give them some answer … some defense … some excuse … for Trump’s endless and indefensible bad behavior and criminal acts. Like The Congress Critters above, it really doesn’t matter how viable, plausible, cogent, consistent, truthful, or valid those talking points are. They just need some way to perpetuate the charade – if only for one more day – that they weren’t used by one of the US’s most notorious con men.
TL;DR: the addicts continue to beg their dealer for just one more hit, so they don’t have to suffer through the misery of withdrawal and reality.
I still don’t understand how anyone could be conned by that moron. But I guess the game is to get the mark to convince themselves. Or that they are part of the ‘deal’.
What’s weird to me, is that I think Trump has conned himself. He may just believe all of the shit and destruction he is doing is good.
I’ve been trying to figure that out since 2016. Do they not know Trump is a liar? If that’s the case, that’s a real problem. Do they know Trump is a liar and they don’t care? If that’s the case, that’s a real problem. What makes it so hard to engage Trump supporters is I have a hard time believing they’re willing to discuss anything in good faith. I simply cannot take them seriously. Or no more seriously than I would a toddler pitching a fit while waving a loaded pistol around.
‘What about Biden?’
No, I’m not joking.
