Why Is Liberal Allowed To Use GD As A Personal Blog???

Maybe you should work on your metaphors, then. Four or five people do not constitute even a metaphorical “everyone”. Maybe something like “a few people” would have been better, and certainly more accurate.

So we should take all of your metaphors literally?

When you say "all’, did you mean “all”?

That depends on what “mean” means…

Now you’re just being mean.

That’s just about the mean among our membership.

Hi all. Yes, clearly I vanity search occasionally.

The best way to access the Political Compass threads is via, why …

THE ULTIMATE POLITICAL COMPASS THREAD

This is where I set out the whys and wherefores of embarking on the, what, year-long odyssey?

It was most definitely intended to enjoin debate. The specific position to be debated was each statement in turn, with a separate thread for debating the validity of the test in general (which, by the way, I don’t consider “biased”, since I was placed accurately in the south west corner while friend Brutus was placed accurately in the north-east, with a good spread of positions in between, though I admit it probably wasn’t an accurate test for some.)

I can’t see how Lib’s threads are much different - he’s set out positions or general subjects to be debated, clicked Start Thread and hey presto, there is a shiny new thing in Great Debates for you to contribute to or ignore completely.

Sentient! Welcome back! You simply must meet Indistinquishable. The two of you are the intellectual giants of the board.

I have to agree with the post that mentioned that series of threads as among the most interesting ever raised on the SDMB. They were really, really good. And I thank you again, SentientMeat, for starting them.

Let’s be honest here - what annoys a good many of those objecting to Lib’s thread(s) is [ol][li]they are about religious belief, and [*]Lib is not falling for the myriad attempts to hijack them or to shout him down.[/ol]There are a certain number of posters who cannot bear the fact that not everyone agrees with their positions. And they don’t want to debate those who disagree - they want them silenced.[/li]

Hey old chum.

Yep, I’ve seen his(?) contributions in my occasional visits. There’s a few other reasonable atheists as well, enough for me to be confident that reasonable theists encountering this board will hopefully experience the level of debate they’re hoping for if they can, like the cocktail party effect (and you sounded just like the perfect cocktail party host there, Lib :)), block out the background noise.

Gotcha. Will do. Thanks for the sage advice, AND for the fascinating read.

Just for the record, that post was mine. And I agree with you. It still stands as the single best series of threads in GD, despite that I dropped out from participating, which I did only out of respect for Sentient. That’s because he wanted to go in a direction that I didn’t. Simple as that. I didn’t shit on his threads; I just disjoined myself. In retrospect, it was a mistake. I could have used an attitude adjustment, and should have trusted that Sentient would guide the threads wisely. Just as he did.
