Why is SDMB the slowest site on Internet?

Hell, I think that the SDMB needs to switch to the newest version of VBull!

The stated reasons for not doing so don’t hold water, in my opinion. The idea that the SDMB has too many custom hacks that would be a pain to transfer to the new version is kind of odd. Of the VBulletin boards I go to, this one has the least hacks. Seriously, what custom stuff has been installed here?

I’ve had the wonderful experience of going to the forum home page, clicking on, say, Cafe Society, and then waiting for 15-20 minutes until the page deigns to load. Of course, after that time, all posts with new threads have been marked as read, thus annoying me greatly. (The same thing happens if I read a multi-page thread straight through, of course) The new version of VBulletin fixes this problem…

I frequently have delays and page not founds when browsing from work, which is normally during the peak period noted above and over a network with a heavy internal traffic load. I rarely have problems at home on weekends or in the evening.

No it hasn’t. It was much worse at some points long before it went PTP.

This past week has been particularly bad for me in the U.K.

Definitely. I used to have complete time-outs all over the place before PTP but I can’t recall more than maybe one or two since.

And then, showing that this board is acutely susceptible to irony, it nearly ate my post just now.

Any wagers as to how long until a staff post reminding us that if we don’t like it we can go bugger ourselves?

My experience is that it was much worse a couple of years ago. Delays & time outs were common place then. Now they are only occasional.
