Why wouldn’t we use dental sealants on everyone to protect their tooth surfaces from cavities?
Are they toxic?
Do they damage your real teeth?
Do they cost too much?

they can be used on adult teeth http://www.dentalgentlecare.com/sealants_adult.htm
I guess children teeth are more prone to decay
I’m sure price is part of it. When I got mine about 16 or 17 years ago I remember my mom saying they were $60 each. Not something every parent is going to put on every kids teeth.
LOL, I got mine free - when i was a youngster up in Rochester NY my dentist of the time was allied with Strong Memorial Hospital and I was one of teh guinea pigs for it … was rather neat at the time - biteplate foll of goop, and then an ultraviolet light for 15 or 30 minutes to cure it. Stopped my cavities dead in their little tracks for like 5 years. Then I got braces =( now i have the old style traditional fillings essentially between my teeth. Bad enamel and that dental adhesive = BAD idea :smack:
Adults certainly get cavities as well, though. If we get regular prophylactic dental cleanings, why don’t we get our teeth painted with sealant every time we’re there? There must be some kind of negative.
True, but the real reason is that adults are far more prone to gum disease, rather than cavities. Bottomline: Not worth the cost, for most people.
