George W. Bush (or, actually, Karl Rove) is not an idiot; he knows from historical precedence that winning a war with high popularity numbers is no guarantee of election victory a year later (coughahem1992*cough).
The GOP has every disgusting intent of milking 9/11 and terrorism for the Bush re-election campaign; a negative 9/11 report – especially one that (as some believe) shows the Bush Administration deliberately downplayed the terrorism threat previously – would derail those plans.
In fact, the general idea of keeping the populace perpetually fearful of vague “terrorist threats” is a political advantage that benefits whoever’s currently in power…
Nah…something better! Shoot, that second link was all about how the pipeline was going to benefit Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Pakistan. Why would greedy industrialists want to help them?? Phooey I say! Phooey!
Even went so far as to say it had UN approval.
And Dick Cheney wasn’t even listed as the sole beneficiary…the UPI said Russians, Saudis, Turkmenistanis, and Unocal were in on the deal…with interest from the Japanese as well. How are Bush Cheney going to get to keep it all if they have to share with these guys??
Those buildings were designed so that if they went down, they went down without spewing masonry everywhere. I’d say that the conspiracy theorists face the burden of proof here on how similar buildings SHOULD look like if they collapse from fire melting their support structures. Nothing I’ve seen in these videos really looks out of the ordinary from what you’d expect.
(Not that I disagree–that conspiracy site is ridiculous–but I’ve never heard anything indicating that the bldgs. were designed to fall w/o spewing debris.)
Not that I care one way or the other on this, but why do some of you think the administration (or ANY administration) has to tell YOU anything? Have they suppressed said reports from the congress? Appearently they’ve shared the reports with YOUR elected officials (on both sides), who are supposed to be watching out for us (or, on the opposing side have at least a vested interest in making sure YOU know about it if the other side screwed up). Thats all they HAVE to do…its called representative democracy.
If there IS anything politically damaging in there, you can bet that somone from the opposing party will ‘accidentally’ leak said information to us anyway…

xtisme…the report was written by congress. Many in congress from both sides of the aisle are bemoaning the fact that the report is being held up and censored.
I seem to recall that the buildings chalked up quite a bit of debris. Controlled explosions usually do not result int clouds that blanket half a city.
Also remember that the buildings did not collapse because of the crash, they collapsed because of the burning jet fuel which melted the structural frame. If you look at the film of the collapse, you will see the chunk of building above the crash starts to fall well before the entire building. If you look closer you will see that part of the upper chunk falls well before the rest of it. That is a factor of structural design. Its not so much that the buildings are designed to minimize debris if they collapse, it is simple the nature of load distribution, the buiding chunks go down because that is the way gravity pulls them, and there’s really not much to stop them. Some parts hit the remaining structure that resisted enough to be defelected, but that deflection resulted in the shattering of said building material. Hence the cloud and scattered debris. Honestly, do people expect the world trade center to fall like a felled tree?
I will ask, hwo did the sooper sekrit ninja cabal commandos know exactly what floor the plane was going to hit so they could plant their secret explosives.
The answer should be obvious: the government should tell me anything and everything related to the function of governing the nation because I am a citizen and a voter. That means I (and my various other cohorts) am the boss of this show, and all those guys in D.C. are the employees. They had damn better tell me what’s going on, or I will fire their asses. Obviously, exceptions should be made when sensitive information is involved, but even then I fully expect the other parts of the government to keep a suspicious eye on the matter.
(Which is, IMO, another reason to be suspicious of the secretive Bush Administration. Why are those guys so busy trying to keep me from finding out what’s going on?)
Sorry I’m so useless at remembering details like names, but a co-worker said she saw a TV interview with one of the architects who had designed the place, and he said they had been designed n such a way that they would go down with a minimum of outward-flying debris in the event of an accident. I don’t think he had an airliner attack in mind - maybe he was thinking more of an earthquake or something, or even a conventional bomb.
I have no idea where to begin to look for a cite like that, but if anyone has ideas, please feel free to share.
