It never does it when there are no windows open on the desktop but usually as soon as I open IE the sides of my display go all wavy. Minimizing IE causes them to go away and then maximizing the window brings them back. The wierd thing is that it will come and go with certain windows open but stop when they are minimized. Anyone have any ideas? I’d really like to know if this is a simple problem or if i need to scrap my monitor for a flat panel! Thanks in advance!
Have you tried using the monitor’s “DeGauss” feature?

I have a monitor with this problem. The heavy horizontal banding of open windows (I use dark blue for the titlebar) seems to especially cause this. It’s just a sign of aging of the internals of the monitor. Presumably a few caps and such are going bad. Not practical (and too dangerous!) for DIY fixing. That monitor now sits on the floor in another room.
If there are moving wavy lines, then something near the monitor is causing it. Speakers and anything else that produces e-m fields are too blame.
rayray at the back of the monitor is the manf, model & year, get them & let me know what they are.
Do you have any electrical devices up against the sides of your monitor like speakers or anything with a transformer in it?
Sounds like a high voltage power supply problem. I suspect that when you open windows with White/light backgrounds is causes all 3 color guns to be on and the power supply isn’t up t the task.
You should be able to do a small experiment to verify this. LIke set you desktop backfround color to white.
Sounds like a static discharge failure. Check the ground wire in the wall socket is fuctioning (they have $2 socket testers at the hardware store)
If it’s a failed capacitor, you may be able to spot it as being split open or having one leg bent to the breaking point.
