I just dislike everything Top-Cow has ever made (not written by JMS) Fathom, Witch Blade, ect. i hate all of those titles but the seem among the biggest sellers at just about every comic book shop i go to and what really gets to me is that JMS titles like Rising Stars are actually the publishers lowest sellers (WTF?) and don’t even get me started on what i think about Witch Blades costume (or rather the lack of).
All their work just seem based around the idea that all men are these 6’4 183lbs rectangles of pure muscle and all women have these huge perfectly round DD tits. Yes I know that a lot of comic book art is based on those ideas, but Top Cow takes it to a new and even more distasteful extreme.
The art i could forgive if the comics had solid writing but I Have yet to read a (non JMS) that i thought was well written. I’ve read the first TP of Preacher and loved it, I read Garth Enisis run on Darkness and i couldn’t even believe this was the same writer.
So will big tits actually make a bad comic publisher successful or did someone at Top Cow sell their soul to the devil for their undeserved success or am I just a retard and unable to appreciate the finer qualities of Top Cow’s comics?
Don’t bring Dawn into this. That is actually a good comic (s). And you just ruined Preacher for me. I can’t believe he did a run on Darkness bows head in disgust. Read some good comics people, especially classics! Preacher,Sandman, anything by Alan Moore, New Xmen, Frank Miller’s run on Daredevil, etc.
Exactly. I mean, being gay, I don’t care too much about teh babez, but anyone can see there’s a huge market for T&A among comic readers, and that along pretty much explains why Top Cow is so popular. I’ve read Witchblade and the Darkness, and while I didn’t really like them, they weren’t the worst things I’ve ever read.
Also, Top Cow books really do tend to have some very nice looking artwork (and coloring) that can be fun to look at even if the writing sucks. Even though I don’t like the Witchblade or Darkness books I have writing-wise, I still pulll them out once in a while because the art is just that cool.
I honestly don’t see how this is just a fault of Top Cow. As far as I’m concerned, the extremes of unrealistic body types were well in place by the time Image was founded and Top Cow just kind of kept going along with that.
And while Fathom and Witchblade might not wear all that many clothes, neither do Wonder Woman or Elektra. Indeed, I’d say that Greg Horn’s softcore porn Elektra covers are more distasteful than pretty much anything Top Cow publishes.
