Why is TV light blue?

Why does the light from a television appear blue when seen from outside (ie when you see it through a window while driving down the street)?

Even if you have something on the TV that is red or yellow, the light still appears blue from outside or from a different room.

Some people I’ve talked to think it’s blue for the same reason that the sky is blue, Rayleigh scattering. But I think the distances are too small, and if that was true, lightbulbs would also appear blue.

Anyone know the real reason why?

Your eyes adapt to changes in light color very readily. This is why you typically don’t notice the difference between the very blusigh light of daylight, 5200-5600º kelvin to the very reddish light from incandescent which might be down under 3000º. If you have much experience in color photography or video work you’re very aware of it. When you watch TV your eyes adapt to the average color from the CRT but when you are seeing a TV as only a small portion of your field your eyes notice the dramatic difference.
