For the past two days, my Yahoo homepage is, like 60% stories about marijuana.
This is your teenagers brain on weed
4-year-old awakened after cannabis treatment
Buying weed for a dying grandpa
Kennedy: Medicinal marijuana is a Trojan horse for the recreational drug industry
Entrepreneurial couple sees selling weed as social justice
And those are just the “above-the-fold” links right now. There’s even more when I scroll down. And there were a half dozen different ones yesterday.
Now I know Yahoo tends to customize your news feed based on what you click and like and whatnot, but I don’t think I’ve clicked any weed stories recently. So what gives? Was Yahoo! bought out by High Times?
They’re targeting your search results.
From way back in the day, I remember giggling about a marijuana-themed search engine called Yahooka. It looks like it no longer exists(?) and the URL gives me warnings, so I won’t attempt to link to anything.
And yeah, I saw lots of MJ stories on Yahoo too (1 of 6 of the stories at the top are currently relevant). My search history isn’t particularly relevant, and that same top story is there in private browsing.
Has it anything to do with Canada’s plans to legalize marijuana?
Good question, as at home it thinks I’m in Canada, and there were more of these stories than at work, though I don’t recall any talking about events in Canada.
Good username/thread synergy, by the way. A carnivorous plant with the munchies is a scary thing.
It looks like Colorado is also having some sort of weed festival this week. It may just all be a big coincidence.
