The major achievement of his life was being a successful vulture capitalist. It was scandalous yet legal. As long as Gordon Gekko types exist, there will be endorsement for behavior that people should otherwise condemn.
ETA: It also helps if you destroy all the computer hard drives at the end of your administration.
while all politicians lie, Mittens comes off more sleazy about it because, for one thing, he adopted this whole conservative persona when the reps told him the only way “he could find republican shelf space would be to go way, way more conservative.” nearly all of his flip-flopping on issues isn’t from shifts in perspective, new information coming to life or even a genuine change of heart–it’s all feigning conservative to be more in line with what the right is looking for. “i can be that guy, whatever it takes.”
this is the major reason his policies and platforms are so hard to pin down–he’s all over the map if you look at his record and if you listen to what he’s saying, he talks about what good he will do but NEVER how he will achieve it.
he directly contradicts himself in debates (anything obama did to help create jobs: “the government cannot create jobs!” then turns to the camera and says “as president, i will create MILLIONS of jobs.”)
it’s fine he’s desperate to win to the point of debasing his integrity–but he’s coming from this ultra religious, pious angle so his lies shower down from a much higher horse.
and paul ryan is even worse. what a freaking douche canoe. “BOOOOO you for stimulus. ah crap, you kept that letter i sent asking for favoritism so i could use that very stimulus?”
I wouldn’t say big time corrupt, but you’ve got your typical patronage going on with green energy loans, you’ve got the usual coverups of stories that are unfavorable. They never cross the line into pure illegality, but if we’re comparing two candidates, Romney’s tenure in Massachusetts was cleaner than Obama’s tenure as President.
It’s pretty simple. the current incumbent is not a reformer and he’s not particularly competent. Mitt Romney at least has a proven record of competence.

That’s obviously opinion- I think Obama has been quite competent, and I think Romney has run a pretty incompetent campaign. As far as reform, I think Obama has been an incremental reformer- not as far as I think we need to go, but at least in the right direction.

Yes, both sides are bad with no nuance or degree of difference, so therefore, we should vote Republican. In fact, that should be a slogan: Both sides are bad, so vote Republican. Nah, that’s too wordy. Best to use an acronym to save time: BSABSVR
I think it just might catch on.

Both sides have their pros and cons. The problem is most supporters are unaware of their own side’s cons or the other side’s pros.
Why, it’s almost as if Romney has a coating of some kind of non-stick household substance . . . maybe like they use on pans or something . . . and a president whose last name begins with R . . . why does that ring a distant bell?
It’s opinion insofar as there is no singular measurement to determine competency. But if you read the books written about the administration by the usual reporters who have been reporting on administrations for decades, like Woodward and Suskind, you find that the Obama administration doesn’t function very well. And there’s no real leadership at the top.
Obama’s statement about the sequester originating in Congress is a great example. It originated in his administration. Maybe he’s lying, or maybe he just has no idea.

Every five minutes on the dot.
What is this in response to? The OP?
“Why isn’t anyone doing a better job of calling Romney on his BS?”
“Every five minutes on the dot.”
If you’re saying that someone does come up with a better call on Romney’s BS that frequently, I think you’re being overly optimistic, but I agree in principle. It does happen pretty regularly.
