All that statement proves is that there is such a thing as a loony homosexual. Anyway, I’m done here.

Well, ok, it depends what you mean. For anyone who thinks the bible is literally true, etc, I think that’s weird, but I’ve been friends with weirder people, and am friends with some evengelicals. However, people who want to enforce those beliefs on me legally or through violence, or who have no room for anything else in their lives, are moving into “actively dangerous or insane” territory, which is what I meant by “loony” in this context.
I agree with this and disagree that it’s either the same thing as hate speech or that it should be banned.
As I said earlier, there’s a long list of words that refer disparagingly to sets of beliefs and actions: fundie, tree-hugger, bleeding-heart, john-bircher, homophobe, white-supremacist, pinko, commie, feminazi, politically correct, and so forth. While these aren’t terribly helpful terms in great debates, for the most part, they’re all of a piece. Ban 'em all or ban none of them.
I of course prefer to ban none of them.

OK, that sounds fair. It is perjoritive, but it criticizing a particular position, so isn’t hate hate speach, as with those other examples. I’ll agree with that.
And “Jap” is just shorthand for “Japanese”
Liberal:
Well, you asked for evidence that fundamentalists in general were highly offended by the slur “fundie”. I’m sure you did not expect a published poll as a response since you’re not stupid. In searching for evidence, I did in fact look for a poll because I’m not as smart as you. Since I couldn’t find a poll, I looked for some evidence . What I found was that an organization that prides itself on “truthfulness as the highest ethic” and that believes “[h]allucinations and illusions are not facts useful for scientific investigation”. It is an organization that is as diametrically opposed to fundamentalism as is humanly possible. I believe that its recognition of “fundie” as a pejorative term qualifies as some evidence that in their experience, they have found it to be generally highly offensive, so much so that they refuse to publish letters that contain the term. That line of reasoning ain’t rocket science.
No, it’s just a huge amount of hand waving to cover the fact that you didn’t have any real evidence.
Considering the source, this is highly amusing.
Hello, I guess I am what you would call a “Fundementalist Christian”, I am reminded of a post I made almost 1 year ago, here it is.
It sounds childish to me. Kind of makes me want to ignore the rest of what the poster may have to say.
But I try to be forgiving, it’s not such a big deal.
It’s after all, only a message board.
