Why Jon Kerry Didn't Win - a Slideshow

Thanks for the laughs Sam. That was just priceless

The Daily Show is well written humour.

Okay, you lost me on the Ann Coulter connection.

Read her stuff. Clearly, the woman thinks she is Swiftian.

Well, I suppose I am humor impaired. I mean, I know that you’ve already acknowledged that this is simply the case of finding some odd looking shots among all those taken of Kerry, so I guess I don’t get why it’s funny to find odd looking shots.

Some of them I don’t even get at all. What is funny about the corn one?

What’s funny about the ball throwing ones? Kerry’s form looks pretty good to me.

What’s funny about the one of Kerry grabbing the rung of the helicopter versus Bush in front of the crashing private jet? It immediately brought to my mind their respective service records.

Too bad there aren’t any pictures of them reflecting their skills as leaders.

she wants the term rechristened “SwiftVetian”

I’ve been a registered Democrat since 1972. I have never voted for a Republican. And I live in a city where Kerry got 83% of the vote in 2004.

But, that was laugh out loud funny.

Odd to say, because I’m glad to delight in any visual expose of politicians of any stripe; waited out the whole lot on my slow download to view 'em all, and have to say, wholeheartedly unimpressed. All quite dull, none Hilarious. Dull. Kinda jerky.

Hmmmm.

Oh, wait…I see now that if I concentrate on the Left side of the screen, pics, I see President George Bush kissing his wife and sundry others, and on the Right side, I see the Loser John Kerry all ajangle.
That is Hilarious, kinda,sorta.

Ah, here we go.

Heeehee!

Yes, the hilarious thing here is that Kerry’s excellent throwing form is portrayed as “girly,” and Bush’s incompetent throw from the shoulder is somehow “manly.”

Eh. I didn’t really see the humor here. Except the one of Kerry hiking the football; that was good. Most of the rest of them, I couldn’t even tell why they were supposed to be funny. Apos’s link was a heck of a lot funnier, although I prefered the less heavy-handed version that originally appeared on the Drudge Report, back before the election.

I thought that was pretty funny and I don’t even have a vote in that election.

But, by golly, Kerry has a serious dose of “American Hair”

Dubya’s a horrible president, in my opinion, but a cowboy hat sure looks good on him. Kerry would’ve been a fair-to-middling president, in my opinion, but he looks like a dumbass in a cowboy hat.

A lot of the Kerry pictures are funny for subtle reasons. Like the one where he’s drinking from a cup, and if you look closely, you see that it’s two plastic cups nested inside one another. That just looks sloppy–why didn’t he take off the second cup?

And the shadow one, where Bush’s shadow looms ominously over a crowd of supporters, while Kerry’s stretches over a vast wasteland devoid of listeners.

I dunno. It was obviously not fair commentary, but it made me giggle a lot.

Daniel

I kept on waiting for the funny part. Maybe I’ll just head over to Fafblog.

Really? Is that why that one is funny? Because the cups are nested? Because either he or the person who got the drink for him accidentally got two? Reminds me of last Friday when we had a pizza lunch for the office, and the woman in front of me accidentally grabbed two paper plates instead of one. I guess I should have laughed and pointed. “You dumb bitch! You grabbed two plates! BWAHAHAHA! Fucking moron.”

Which one is that? There’s ones with a silhouette of Bush in front of an American flag, versus Kerry’s shadow on the ground. Is that one the funny one?

Okay, I have to admit that even if you were to point out why these are funny, I may still not find them funny. It’s great for you if you can. Humor is subjective, and all.

You know what would have been funny? If the Bush bike riding picture was the one where he fell off his bike because of the mud that was on the ranch after two or three weeks without rain. That would have been funny, especially if it was a picture showing how he was supposedly whistling show tunes while simultaneously wearing protective mouth gear. Now that would have been a laugh riot.

And I know funny. I’ll have you know that Reader’s Digest is considering publishing two of my amusing anecdotes.

Maybe the coffee was hot?

I dunno, some of them were funny, but a lot of em I was like, “Wait, is this supposed to make Bush look bad, or Kerry?” And some of them were just confusing (someone mentioned the corn one, for example).

Meh, sez I.

I thought the two-cups picture was supposed to be funny because Kerry looks awkward with his face shoved in the cup, not because the cup is doubled (which is a perfectly sensible way of insulating your drink). I don’t think Dubya looks any too presidential in his picture in that pairing, either–looks like a stereotype southern redneck.

Oops, hit reply before I was ready. Bush also looks a little silly in the shot where he’s nose-mashing with Laura…what are they doing, trying to woo the Eskimo vote? But the corresponding shot of Kerry holding up a limp-as-a-ragdoll Teresa is fucking hilarious.

Yes, that’s what you should have done, absolutely; perhaps she then would have taught you the difference between Internet mockery and real-life etiquette. An important lesson for all!

Humor is indeed subjective, and what you describe might be funny in a different photo essay, one that depicts Kerry as presidential and Bush as a dumbass. I suspect that your photo essay would be less challenging to create, and cause me less mental whiplash, so I probably wouldn’t find it as funny; but it’d still make me laugh.

Okay, that’s funny.
