Why matches get rid of fart smell

My friends and I disagree about why lighting a match gets rid of pesky fart-smell. I say that the burning match actually burns the gas itself. My girlfriend argues that it’s the smoke from the blown out match that does the trick.
Any experts out there know the answer?

I doubt the flame can burn the fart gas that isn’t directly touching the flame. I don’t think it sucks in gas from all around the room.

I guess some kind of convection current is created by the rising heat, but I don’t think it processes that much air.

I think the sulpher smell of the match simply overpowers the fart.

I think it’s the “perfume” factor. You’re masking one odor with another.

The concentration of the flammible gas isn’t enough to be “burned off” by a match lit several seconds after first offense.
