Think of it as more like salt in the wound, insult to injury–that sort of thing. If I’m understanding these things correctly… Long hair on guys was supposed to ruin civilization, as were short skirts on girls (notice how no one really minded about that.) Then the Pill was responsible for the imminent collapse, then women re-entering the workforce (working class women who had always worked didn’t count, of course), damned Women’s Libbers! And let us not forget Civil Rights–having blacks in school with Amanda and Scott was supposed to put coffin nails into society, as well as African-Americans drinking from the same water fountains as us white folk. And then, if I’ve got my timeline right, Murphy Brown and the 50% divorce rate was culpable for the ills present today. Now it’s the homosexuals’ turn. Next decade it will be Asians or the Blue People from Mars. :rolleyes: But the gays…It’s one thing to cause rock solid institutions to crumble, but at least the rubble is still there–bring the gays on board and even the rubble will be gone!
Funny how lesbianism seems so much more accepted, indeed even sought after…(at least as a titillation). What is it about 2 males having sex that gets people’s knickers in such a twist? Who cares what they do? Do those who canvass against it want to watch or participate?
This has always baffled me. If a gay guy approached a hetero guy for sex, all the hetero has to do is say “no thank you”. That’s what women do. Why is it such an issue? Strangest thing to get all upset about, IMO. I get more upset if my neighbor puts out tacky Xmas decorations… 
The way it’s been explained to me? (And I swear, I am not joking, el, so help me.) Even being approached by a homosexual somehow implies TEH GHEY onto the man being hit on. If a gay man hits on a straight man, he must, de facto, be a closeted gay.
If anyone can explain to me 1) Who comes up with these damn rules men live by and 2) Why the hell it’s such a big deal to be thought of by some losers in a bar (or anywhere else for that matter) as gay, I’d love to hear the reasoning.

Sexism. At its root, homophobia is a subset of sexism. (Straight) men (and a small but not infinitesimal number of gay men (you can recognize them by their flag lapel pins and wide stances)) cannot stand to be thought of the way they think of women. Being leered at, being propositioned, being watched naked, being thought of as another man’s sex object…not to be borne. Men who will engage in live fire with other people who actually want to kill them apparently will kill or commit violence at the thought of having to share a barracks with a gay man. At its root, it’s silly, despite the suffering it causes.
I don’t know why people even bother running down the side road of arguing what the Bible says about homosexuality. It’s irrelevant to a discussion of the law in the US. It’s irrelevant to everyone who doesn’t follow Christianity. All it does is throw the thread into a dogleg detour that terminates in a dead end. My standard response to Biblical cites in threads about US law is going to be “So?” from now on. It’s irrelevant.
So…they recognize how incredibly wrong it is to be treated as a thing when it happens to them (they must on some level, right? Or why get so pissed off about it?), but continue doing it to women? That is fucked up in so many ways, I don’t even know where to start.

That’s because of the widespread use of the term “Gaydar.” What was originally a whimsical term for very subtle social cues gay men used to identify each other has become a term describing some sort of gay superpower.
