I’m asking you again seriously to please lay out your argument as to how allowing gay marriage will destroy, or even seriously harm western civilization. If you have an argument it’s better to make it, and maybe people will agree with you, then just to mock the people who feel differently. I can’t speak for anyone else here, but I promise if you make your argument, I won’t laugh at you for it. I probably won’t agree with it, but I’ll at least listen to you.

Yeah, who knew the Romans’ problem was gay rights? I thought it was dividing their military power and economic collapse, but I’m no historian.
And, of course, unlike gay rights, there’s no parallel to those things in the modern U.S.

What ideology do you refer to and how is it loathsome?
What other culture do you refer to when you say ours will be displaced by allowing people of the same gender in a relationship to have the same legal rights as those relationships comprised of persons of opposite genders?

You refer, I assume, to the distinction between “ritual” laws in the OT (which were superceded by Jesus) and “moral” laws, which still apply? My problem with this argument is that the reason for putting laws against homosexuality into the “moral” camp has always appeared to be rather arbitrary. How does one determine that not eating shellfish is a ritual law, and gay sex is a moral law, when both actions are equally inoffensive outside the context of divine commandment?
Do you know that this is the only explanation (not that I’ve had many offered me; most guys I ask about this just shake their heads at me and say I wouldn’t understand) that makes any kind of sense? Fucked up, misogynistic, irrational sense, but sense of a kind.
I agree with Maureen–but I also put these men on par with those who refuse to wear pink or purple (not that really anyone should be wearing purple) because “they’re girl colors”.
I do like the scenario I now have in my head: gay guy grabs a straight guy’s ass in a bar; SG turns around in surprise and dismay at being “manhandled” and is told to “appreciate it, it’s a compliment.” I’d like most guys have to put up with that shit to see how they like it. I know I hated it when I was young and am frankly happy to be out of the “stage” of life.
And now I’m off down another rabbit hole in my mind: hey, gay guys–if someone did grab your ass in a bar, is the grabber more likely to get some er, tail that night or less? I can tell you from my own experience that I never went home or even talked to a guy in a bar who pulled such a stunt. YMMV and all that, I’m just curious…
Last thoughts on this silly topic: heteros have pretty much put civilization in the toilet all by themselves. I don’t see how sexual orientation matters when we’re all basically just waiting for the Giant Flush to come.
I’m interested in this answer as well, seeing as how much of the Jewish world still keeps kosher and all… where do dietary laws end and moral laws begin? and why can’t the more religious of us just admit that many, many of the laws and traditions passed down are there to help regulate society, there’s nothing pious about them?
