You know what kind of rhetoric has been a bit tiring (not to mention absolutely ridiculous) for a long time now? The “Oh, we’re just good Christians who have a moral opposition to homosexuality, so you can’t tell us we’re wrong or else you’re persecuting us for our religious beliefs”. That’s what’s tiring and boring.
How many Christians get beat up or murdered in this country for being Christian? How many Christians find themselves unable to visit or see their spouse or even significant other in the hospital? How many Christians find themselves completely dispossessed by their partner’s family when their partner dies intestate?
How many Christian children are put by their families in camps to make them “ex-Christians”? How many Christians are thrown out on the street by their families for being Christian? How many Christians are fired for being Christian, denied housing for being Christian, or told they’re not welcome at church because they’re Christian?
How many, PharmBoy? Does gay people telling the truth about being gay in America still bore you, or do you want some more stories? Just read the linked thread if you want some more exciting stories. Then maybe you’ll understand that “gaybashing, we’re so put upon” is so much more tiring for US than it ever will be for YOU.

Well, some conservatives HAVE said that some of those countries’ societies are collapsing, and put the blame on gay marriage - I started a thread on one in the past.

Why should he have to distance himself from NAMBLA? He has nothing to do with them.

I may be able to elucidate his views, however, judging from the way he talks about them. I could be wrong, in which he can correct me. He believes being gay is not unlike a wildly popular trend. Society, if it wishes to survive, must repress this desire. If the laws and cultural mores of a society make the gay life style, as it were, appear desirable then more people would want to be gay. Eventually, there’d be too many gays. Not enough children. Population collapses. Bad stuff.
Yes, I always did find it humorous how many anti-gay men reference gay sex as a day to day challenge that must be studiously avoided, often with the help of religion. Connect your own dots.
In all seriousness, the meaning of the term arsenokoietes was extensively discussed several times 5 or 6 years ago in GD. As I recall, Diogenes the Cynic made some excellent points and is quite knowledgeable on the Greek that Paul used, and Polycarp also had some very good contributions. While it will take a while for the hamsters to dig it out, I strongly recommend you do a search on the term going back that far.

The SDMB----as best as I can tell----has never had a comprehensive conversation about the bible and homosexuality. Perhaps there was one pre 2002/2003ish when I started lurking.
I have seen threads that discussed arsenokoietes , in part, and I’ve seen what seems like hundreds of threads that discuss homosexuality. In my view, I have never seen a comprehensive, thorough, extensive discussion of homosexuality and the bible.
That’s not a criticism of SDMB, or the members here. It is hard to have a discussion like this on a MB. Further, the references (or, to be fair, apparent references) to homosexuality are several, and span hundreds of years. It is common for these conversations to get splintered almost immediately.
Add to that the different levels of knowledge (some real, and some [google] imagined) ,varying levels of maturity, and the lack of diversity (and knowledgeable counter arguments) and you have a splintered, free-for-all.
Perhaps one day we can.

So, with all due respect to both Diogenes and Polycarp (both of whom I respect) I have read the threads and remain both unimpressed and unconvinced. Like the rest of us, my time is often limited. On a few occasions I thought it would be nice to have a series of discussions that dealt with the subject in a more complete way.

In any event, perhaps one day we can have a series of threads that look at these accounts one by one and see what the bible does say about the subject.
