Why Obama Will Probably Lose

Depends, can you identify them?

That’s a pretty high bar. To prove Rand Rover is a partisan hack by your definition, one would need to review all of his posts to ensure he never once said anything positive about a Democrat nor anything critical of a Republican. Even one statement to the contrary would exempt him from hackery. And that’s assuming we limit the comments only to this message board; he could theoretically be singing the praises of Obama and trash-talking those greedy, amoral Republicans on other message boards or in meatspace.

That said, I’m pretty sure he’d qualify under even those strict terms, but obviously nobody has the time to do that kind of in-depth research.

For practical purposes, the looser, “I know it when I see it” working definition of a partisan hack is perfectly useful.

I want to agree, but after SO many years of christian this and christian that, I really really want to invoke the “No True Scotsman”. It has just gotten so damn old, all this Gawd this and christian that.

That will NEVER happen. Cherry picking, distortion and lying is the rule of the day

Another election which can be defined as
Vote for me because Im not him.

I am not religious…but I used to be.

Short answer:

Most Christians do not believe in the literal interpretation of the bible. They do not believe that it is the word of God handed down directly and unchanged. They believe that much of the bible is true but that the recording and the rewriting thoughout history could have distorted it. Hell, I was brought up VERY Catholic, had priest/nun friends and none that I know of believed in literal truth of the bible.

I took a Theology class taught by a nun (I was toying with becoming a priest) and she spent the first couple of days documenting the bible and various translations and that some were better than others…even comparing the same passages translated from different sources and times.

Why is homosexuality thought of so negatively by some Christians? My thoughts are that it has not much to do with Christianity but a hate for them that those then went into the bible to look for support for their views and grabbed onto anything they found.

Just read what the Epsicopalians just did at their recent convention.

  1. Approved provisional rites for blessing same-sex unions
  2. Added “gender expression and identity” to their non-discrimination canons, including access to discernment for ordination
  3. Endorsed the repeal of DOMA
  4. Supported civil rights for same-sex partners including the residency rights for immigrant partners of citizens.

So being anti-gay is not a “Christian” thing. Christians are on both sides (much like civil rights, women’s sufferage, slavery, and most other social issues).
