Why so Little Hate for the US Soldiers?

Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Afghanistan all turned Communist following the war so, y’know.

Maj. Gen. Hufft,US, said he gave orders not to take prisoners. He said if the Germans won, I would have been on trial at Nuremberg instead of them.

Nice copy n paste from Wiki there gonzo. It would help if you knew anything about them before thinking it’s just the winner making the rules and thus the US is morally equal to Nazi Germany. Dachau? Seriously? Do you know anything at all about it? I’ll assume you don’t. Upon capturing the Dachau death camp,

About 15 of the captured death camp guards were shot. But hey, shooting 15 prisoners just after the heat of combat and then coming upon ground zero of the Holocaust is the same as the Holocaust itself. Winners making the rules.

There were certainly instances in which US soldiers during WWII killed German and Japanese POWs and massacred civilians, but they were hardly typical and suggesting that they were remotely comparable to the barbarities that German and Russian armies heaped on each other is utterly asinine.

Also, anyone making judgements about how allied troops behaved in WWII based on something they read in wikipedia is making themselves look extremely foolish.

We do paint ourselves as different than other countries in war. But it is not true. We are just people. I used to be pleased because we did not torture. Now even that is gone,. We attack country after country. I suppose some think that is because we are peaceful and different?
We didn’t have prison camps like Dachau and did not try to kill all Jews. We did have Abu Grebe and Guantanimo. We have attacked Cuba, Iraq, Viet Nam and endless others. We have spilled the blood of citizens from many countries. We have interfered in many countries governments . I am not always proud of what we do.

remember My lai?

Abu Grab ended up being punished by the US military itself. In Cuba, Cuban exiles attacked (not us), while in Vietnam we were aiding the South Vietnamese (and there were plenty of South Vietnamese loyalists, look at all the refugees who came here after the North Vietnamese overran the South).

I’m going to treat RaleighRally’s post as a whoosh. The alternative is too depressing.

Yes, you are correct.

“Abu Grebe”(never seen that transliteration what made you come up with it) and “Guantanimo(sic)” are comparable to Dauchau.

Similarly, it’s perfectly fair to compare someone arrested for drunken driving to Ted Bundy.

I have to wonder if the universe would implode upon itself in a whirlpool of mutually opposing denials of reality if gonzo and Qin were locked in a room together.

Only after the problem became public, and the brass came under political pressure. Which sends a clear message: “if you do some ugly shit, for chrissake don’t take pics of it. You’ll be fine.”.
Furthermore, only the schmucks dumb enough to appear in pictures were punished, but none of the officers who either turned a blind eye or actually ordered the mistreatment of prisoners all the way up the chain of command and into Rumsfeld’s office. Not to mention all the military contractors & mercenaries employed by the Army, who to this day have yet to answer for their crimes.
Besides, further covering of asses is ongoing in that affair, not to mention unlawful detentions and prisoner abuse.

If you think this Abu Ghraib was a case of “a few bad apples” and it’s all in the past now, your Kool-Aid was laced with pixie dust.

In Cambodia, the Communists killed quite a lot of people:

What would the body count be if something similar had happened in large countries like Thailand or Indonesia? You are just so naïve if you do not realize the American Vietnam soldiers contribution to humanity. You call them babykillers but the reality was that the Viet Cong cooperated with the cultural Marxist press in the west serving them with biased “news items”. I know incidents like Song My did occur and that was unacceptable of course. But in general, the behaviors of the American soldiers were outstanding. I especially admire their defense of Khe Sanh which could easily have turned out to be as fateful as the French experience in Dien Bien Phu.

My mother was involved in the United NLF Groups in Sweden. But I have convinced her about how wrong she was and that the Americans were the real heroes. Here is a song she used to sing at that time (with English subtitles):

In contrast to the Vietnam War, WWII was really a very unnecessary war, as Pat Buchanan has pointed out. Churchill, Hitler, and the Unnecessary War - Wikipedia

I really don’t see what soldiers fighting in Viet Nam have to do with Communism failing to take Indonesia. The reason Communism didn’t spread there was that Suharto (with more than a little help from the CIA) had every last avowed or suspected Communist rounded up and shot. As, um, efficient as that was, it’s not an altogether ethical way of doing things.
And of course, it had precisely zero to do with Vietnam vets or fighting the Viet Cong.

The Communist movement in Vietnam was the child of (and ultimately, only concerned with) Vietnamese nationalism and anti-colonialism. I could see how other anti-colonialists in the region could have been influenced (and were, and were in fact successful as evidenced by my first comment to you), but I fail to see the connection with Communism not spreading to Thailand, which has never been colonized.

… ok, that has to be a woosh.

My reasoning is based on the Domino Theory. Naturally, this theory was no longer viable when it became apparent to all poor countries how failed the idea of Communism was.

I used to think like you about WWII but after hearing Pat’s arguments, I was converted.

I do not make our actions and Germany’s equal. We can not reach the level of horror that killing Jews and gays while creating death camps reach. But to use that as an excuse for what we did is wrong. There are always terrible things done in war times by all sides. But Germany’s actions do not excuse ours. We are responsible for what we do and our soldiers do.
No Abu Grebe was not the same as Dachau. Does that mean it is OK ? Does that mean we should ignore it?
I just want us to live up to the standards that we profess to have. I do not accept torture by American soldiers. I want us to quit going to war for big business. We should go to war when we are actually being threatened by someone. I do not remember the Vietnamese, Cambodians and citizens of Laos attacking us. I forgot when Iraq attacked us. When did Afghanistan attack us?

What is “Abu Grebe”?

To help out here, I’ll use small words:

Afghan make AQ part of government structure, give bases, let live there, let train, safe place, nice, good babaganoush. Afghan know AQ am bad, AQ say “grr, we kill American, kill civilian, grrr!” Afghan com-pli-cit if AQ go and attack America. Then AQ go and attack America. Two buildings fall down, go boom. Other building, five sides, hit by plane. Fourth plane crashes in field. Many people die, economy be bad for while. This be in 2001. Month 9. Day 11.

This how and when Afghan attack us.

You thank me much now.

We have been busy attacking and interfering in sovereign governments.
The Afghan government did not attack the towers. That has been claimed for Bin Laden . Almost all those involved were Saudis.
Why do you not blame Saudi Arabia, Finn. They financed the tower bombers too.
Oh wait, the news file footage of Arabs on monkey bars. I keep forgetting what solid proof that is.

Gonz still not understand. Finn hope Hammer of Repetition serve useful function, or at least make Gonz address facts.

  1. Finn not blame Saudi for having Saudi people do things because Finn not retarded.
  2. Finn blame Afghan government for doing things Afghan government do because Finn like to roll that way.

Finn beat Gonz up before with clue-by-four about this, Gonz no remember it seem. Afghan government make AQ part of it, Saudi government no do this, hate Bin Ladin, say “Grrr, no like you Bin Ladin, you go way!”
Some Saudi am bad Saudi. Some Saudi give money to AQ, some Saudi fight for AQ. Bad Saudis, bad. We not give them any cookie. Saudi nation not do this, though. This point we call im-por-tant. Maybe Saudi nation can have cookie. Saudi nation also shit bad when comes to preventing money going to bad men with bombs, this no good. But no government support, like Afghan government support. We take cookie away from Saudi then, okay?

Gonz do forget what “solid proof” am. It called, Afghanistan government make AQ part of “ministry of the fence”, me think. Not sure what the fence ministry do, but think maybe has something to do with shooty shooty bomby bomby, maybe government job, maybe nice car, cute girl under burka jump out of giant cake for birthday, sing “yay AQ, we love you”. Maybe Minister of Fence not same as Arab Monkey on bars. Not sure. Maybe bars for lemurs from Damascus. Good martini. Gonz explain that one maybe later.

Sadly, I doubt it. In Pat Buchanan’s private little world, that wicked, bad man Churchill started WW2 by forcing the innocent man of peace Hitler to invade Poland. pat-buchanan-hitler-didnt-start-wwii

wars are horrible , babies ,children , sons , daughters get slaughtered , human life degenerates where the war is fought , the only soldiers that deserve honour are those fighting on their own soil to defend their people’s way of life , fighting for their children , fighting for freedom .
i can only pray that american troops do not invade whatever corner of the world you live in , then you will understand the honour of the usa government .
even the soldiers know this , that is why they do not feel like heroes anymore . this is more like slaughter assignments , the new american soldier is viewed to be more like the old nazi of ww 2 .
