Honestly, thanks. Liberals tend to forget what the world looks like to people living inside the right-wing bubble because their brains just can’t comprehend such unreality. We need reminders every few days. It’s like saying, pinch me to convince me I’m not dreaming.
Anyway, out here in America “A bipartisan majority of Americans appear to reject an idea floated by President Donald Trump to reopen businesses by Easter, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll…” Bipartisan means Republicans too. The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that “89% of Democrats and 70% of Republicans” thought that the notion of reopening the country by Easter was nuttier than a 300,000 gallon tank of pistachio ice cream. That’s probably why only “31% of Americans were ‘very likely’ to follow Trump’s recommendations and guidance regarding the coronavirus,” *half *as many as those who would follow doctors’ instructions.
Oh, BTW, our spring-breaking youth don’t vote. You should know that, considering your party exists in power solely because of its dependence on the geriatric vote and has sabotaged all efforts to get younger voters to the polls, knowing they favor Democrats by about two to one. But by all means, do a 180 and get that youth vote going. I’ll help you every step of the way.
It’s not that he hasn’t stumbled yet. It’s that what happens in March never matters in an election. It’s not a hard concept and it will always remain true. It’s not about public memory or amnesia. It’s about how the individual feels their life and the country is doing the minute before they pull the lever. Or when they decide it’s not worth it to go to the polls.
By next October, Trump will be claiming that he was the one that ordered the lockdowns and closings. And he’ll claim he had to fight the Democrats to get it done.
As far as the 3rd parties go, we can look back to 2004. The Greens definitely played spoiler in 2000 as well as the Pat Buchanan votes. 2004 was a loss for Kerry but it wasn’t because of third parties.
There’s a little more to it than that, though. Biden is making the same mistakes that Clinton made, like running an overly-cautious campaign without really having a theme other than having a better personality than Trump. His outreach to minorities has been pretty weak as well. He’s not made a personal connection with his voters and his potential voters, and the timing couldn’t be worse because making that connection is a lot more difficult via Skype.
Trump sent 18 tons of medical equipment to China in early February. Now there is a shortage.
There is video of the pallets (remember how much Republicans used to hate things on pallets being delivered to other country) being unloaded that will be in campaign ads momentarily.
The kids partying down in spring break don’t fucking vote. But when people lose their parents because their little monsters brought the virus back from Florida, they’re going to remember the Republican governor of Florida that allowed the partying to take place. Every single state at some point is going to go through a lockdown. It’s hard to get pissed at your own governor for doing what the other 49 governors have done.
I’m not sure how much that (“hoping for bodies”) matters. Frankly, I don’t think it will matter all that much. Why not? Because the people who support the Toddler-in-Chief have made it VERY clear that they don’t adhere to facts or to reality in the way that the rest of us do. And you KNOW that if “the numbers” from this outbreak make the “Gilded God” look bad then Republicans (headed by Angry Lid’l’ Donny himself, of course) are gonna say (if they aren’t already) that they’re “made up” or that the REAL fault lies with “do-nothing Democrats.” If there is ONE thing that Republicans are absolute MASTERS at, it is outright LYING and getting a significant portion of our electorate to believe them while they do so.
In short: He’s another mediocre (at BEST) candidate that Dems are putting up for Prez. 'Course, Republicans generally come up with nominees who are MUCH worse and yet they keep winning presidential elections more often than not. Why do you suppose that is, hm?
And/or either nutpick quotes on the Internet or just speculate out of whole cloth that “look, Democrats wanted more people to die because it will help them, they obviously hate America!”
My answer is: because (somehow, some way) Republican nominees generally resonate with voters more than Democratic nominees do. It may be by lying through their teeth and uttering complete BS that anybody with half a brain would dismiss out-of-hand, but they find a way to do it. My point is that Democratic nominees for Prez need to do a better job of relating to people or they’re gonna keep losing to Republican candidates that they really have absolutely no business losing to.
Joe is better than you might think. He gave a great speech after SC that I think cinched the nomination. He’ll be fine. The election is going to be run following or perhaps in the greatest humanitarian crisis in modern history against a monster who has no empathy whatsoever.
