Mine was made out of the crate our franklin stove came in. This one’s a geodesic dome!

As a nod to childhood treehouses and those good old days of youthful splendor, Dustin Feider obsessed himself with developing the perfect eco-friendly version of the tree sanctuary. After much trial and error, the 23-year old freelance furniture designer came up with a unique and green take on the conventional kiddie sanctuary which he dubbed the O2 Sustainability Treehouse. Inspired by the construction of Buckminster Fuller’s infamous geodesic dome, Feider discovered that by following Bucky’s lead, he could use less material and construct a more stable structure than that of the ‘traditional’ treehouse - most importantly, without at all harming the tree.

I want one! (Of course, I need a tree to put it in.)

That dome is novel, but nothing beats a good old fashioned wooden treehouse. My best friend as a little kid, Joe, had the sweetest one ever. His uber-handyman dad built it with real windowpanes, a locking door, and a total interior area almost the size of an average kid’s room. Christ, that thing was badass.

I like the one in the illustrated image down towards the bottom that has the trunk of the tree going right up through the middle of the sphere. That would be awesome.

Artwork to decorate the inside of your new tree house!

An admirer of the iconoclastic architect Buckminster Fuller, Mr. Shields had a special interest in creating works that would function within a geodesic dome, a popular housing concept for the alternative lifestyle. His “Whirling Dervish” would have worked well in such a setting. The artist covered a six-sided pyramid with a busy patchwork of canvas that was variously sewn, stained, splashed, and collaged.

I was going to say “thats not a treehouse, its supposed to be planks and reused nails assembled in a warped manner”, but when I saw the photo of it glowing in the dark, I imidately wanted one too.

But still, its not a treehouse per se, more like a tree tent isn’t it.

Who was it here that built that absolutely outstanding treehouse in his backyard? I think his username started with a P maybe? A quick search just brought up a plethora of Simpson’s references.

I think that was Phlospher. If I recall correctly, he also has a Hobbit-hole in his back yard.

But I have to wonder about putting unneccessary all-night artificial lighting in an “eco-friendly” treehouse. In fact, I have to wonder what’s eco-friendly about it at all.
