I just got an email fundraising appeal from the Donald Trump campaign. What the hell? Anybody who knows anything about me knows I despise the man.
Did you make sure it was legit?

Was it for a Legal Defense fund? Because that would be pretty funny.

Fundraisers don’t always hit their target groups with 100% accuracy.
I was bewildered/amused to get a 2016 campaign fundraising appeal from Ben Carson, complete with suitable-for-framing portrait to place in my personal Ben Carson shrine.
That’s an easy one.
Hells no. Even if it were really from Donald Trump. Especially if it’s really from Donald Trump.
I got some stuff like that after I contacted my Congressman. Not Trump specifically, but other Republicans.
Perhaps someone who doesn’t like you and has your email address sent a “I am interested in your viewpoint, and wish to subscribe to your newsletter” email.
I’ve gotten a few of those e-mails, too. No idea how I got on their list, but they’re way off on their targeting.

The biggest flaw with email is that you can’t wipe your ass with it and write “Return To Sender” on it. Hopefully space-age future technology will find a way around that.

I’m glad that during the presidential campaign I didn’t get any mailings or a knock on my door from either candidate, and was afraid I would since:
I’m an independent in Florida,
every downballot campaign seems to mail endless ads to me, and
I got craploads of inappropriate Facebook group suggestions around the election period (which I assume were promoted by … certain … outside … interest groups.)
Definitely not registered as a Republican. Never gave any indication that I support Republican causes. Have given money to Democratic causes in the past.
Do you live in an area where people have gone heavily for Republicans?
On the contrary, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
