And per the OP, this was about the only Patriots game this season that had an exciting and dramatic second half. It may be the last until playoff time. I guess, looking on the bright side, it saves me from spending half of Sunday afternoon sitting in front of the tube.
It showed that they’re vulnerable to the occasional fluke big play, but I don’t think it’s anything that future opponents can build a game plan around.
I know that sounds kind of dumb, but take a look at the scoring. Indy’;s two first half field goals came as the result of long (yardage wise, at least) drives, but the Pats stiffened up inside the ten and twice held them out of the end zone… and the only reason they were inside the ten in the first place is that both of those drives were extended by dubious pass interference calls. When was the last time the Colts stalled inside the ten yard line… much less to do the same thing twice in ten minutes?
The dump-off to Addai was terrible defense on the Pats part, but I don’t think it exposed any glaring weakness that future opponents can use to their advantage. It just means that they can be beat every once in a while on fluke plays.
The results of Indy’s drives in the second half were (in order): interception, punt, punt, TD, punt, fumble. The single second-half score they got was the product of a short field after a pick thrown by Brady. Brady doesn’t throw too many interceptions, and short fields aren’t anything to count on against NE.
If you were gameplanning to play the Patriots, how would watching tape of this game help you?
I look at it as the Colts played a pretty damn good game, got a few critical calls go their way and still lost at home.
I’m wondering if anybody will decry the Colts cheating (youtube link) in yesterday’s game as loudly as they decry the Patriots cheating. I’m guessing not, since the Colts are good and the Patriots are evil.
Maybe Tony Dun-cheat shouldn’t be so quick to complain about other teams cheating. Something about glass houses and stones.
I’m curious about that. My brother and I heard the skipping live and remarked on it. We assumed it was just a problem with the feed. The announcers audio went on as normal, but the crowd noise had that “CD skipping” sound for about two or three seconds. I assume these are two different feeds that are mixed and then sent out as a single audio signal.
It didn’t even occur to me as being anything but an audio glitch. I’d be willing to bet a lot of money that that’s all it was, because the entirety of the crowd noise skipped. It wasn’t like you heard some skipping crowd noise over the real crowd noise, which is what you would hear if they were indeed pumping in fake crowd noise.
edit: Actually, listening to the link, it’s hard to tell, but I’m still betting it’s just an audio feed problem on CBS’s end.
Hmm…that does make it more interesting. Perhaps I’ll take my wager off the table.
Were there people at the game who heard this?
Somehow I don’t think that any Indy fans at the game are going to admit to hearing anything.
No kidding. But there were obviously N.E. fans there, too. And I’m sure a bunch of people just there for the game, fans of neither. Plus, I’m sure there are some honest Indy fans who would admit to hearing it if it actually happened. I know I would, were I a Colts fan.
They probably suffered hearing damage as a result of the pumped up crowd noise.
Bullshit. Was it CBS’ fault when the same thing happened against Pittsburgh two years ago?
Well, there ya go.
But, anyway, wouldn’t it be easy to verify this against other audio broadcasts like, say, a radio broadcast or something, or is there only one audio feed? I’ve actually become a bit more suspicious since my initial posts on the matter and would like it resolved a bit more conclusively.
Waaaaaaaaaaah. The poor Patriots are so unfairly maligned!
Here, you want your pacifier back?
Give me a break! If the Colts were cheating, i’ll decry it exactly the same as i would decry cheating my the Patriots or any other team. This notion that the Patriots are somehow getting an unfair PR deal is puerile and pathetic.
mhendo, personal insults are not allowed in Cafe Society… no matter how funny.
[sub]Reason #42 why I don’t like having Sports discussions in Cafe Society.[/sub]
Well, sorry, but implying that someone is crying about something never struck me as a personal insult. I guess i know better now.
