Ooh! That’s always a drag, MamaP. I’ve had a few bad ones - like my last (anytime you have to start trimming around the ears within a week of a new 'do, somebody didn’t get things right). But that’s not the BIG ONE.
In 1963 we were preparing to move to Japan and I needed to get a passport photo. My Mom decided that I needed a haircut for such and, although she’d never done one, it seemed to her that the burr cut my parents imposed on me at the time should be simple enough, so she sat me down and drug out the clippers.
A simple burr proved beyond a first timer’s skills. She kept having to go back and balance things here and there until, finally, she was forced to stop - there was no more hair to cut.
Bald in 5th grade! It was in fact a beyond bald experience, as dear ol’ Mom had left a few bright red skid marks where she’d gone beyond cutting mere hair (thank evolution for putting our brains inside skulls). As you can well imagine, returning to school the next day was less than fun (I did briefly consider feeding the rumor that had started that I’d been in a car wreck and had gone through the windshield).
School was nothing. In early 1964 we arrived in Japan, and got hung up for a day in Customs while they pondered whether or not to let me in the country. It seems the Japanese immigration authorities initial appraisal of my passport photo got them thinking I had some hideous disease or was undergoing chemotherapy or some such.

are you connecting via modem? I wonder if the problem you’re having is that old modem security defect that allows incoming text to trigger escape modes and disconnect you.
You might try the test here to see if it is.
Otherwise, I’m stumped…
