troll3, if you’re still here (my screen does not yet show you banned), a moderator does not have to touch the contents of a post to lock it. The artifical “[censored]” text was not done by a moderator, as anyone who has read a moderator-modified post knows.

Nah, don’t ban Homer. Sure, it was a bad joke, and apparently against the regulations. But a slap on the wrist ought to do it. Tim’s a smart guy, basically, and contributes quite a bit to the boards, IMHO. Banning him would be overkill.
Maybe, Coldy, but that was a really fucked-up thing to do. Manny works his ass off in GQ, as you well know. For Tim to come along and pretend that Manny censored his thread, threatening to “get mad,” and for god’s sake misspelling “gratuitous” is extremely insulting.
I think Manny’ reaction is completely appropriate.
I further think that Tim needs to publicly apologize, here and in GQ.

On the bright side, it warmed the cockles of my heart to witness manhattan slog out from the shifting, treacherous quicksand of the GQ Moderator position to adroitly rip Homer a new one here in the Pit. And shortly afterward, manhattan tolerated the appearance of the “Second Evillest Woman” thread in GQ, simply because he was enjoying reading it!
It’s a pleasure to see the old boy having fun again. Now my main priority is erasing the mental image of him in the shower.

First off, I think it might have actually been a moderately funny joke, if you hadn’t take it to the pit and pretended it was real. So, I gotta ask, why did you fuck it up like that? Why did you take what was almost a good thing and put Manhattan’s name at the end of it? It was un-needed and uncalled for. But then you upped the ante even higher, you started a thread in the pit, pretending it was real. Didn’t you know the truth would come out? Shame on you for being an idiot, ya mook. <— (double-negative?)
I suppose we’ll have to take your word on that one. You’re the only one who knows the weak mind from a first-person perspective.
Please give Homer another chance everyone. I think it was just meant as a joke, not a malicious joke. I’m sure worse things have been posted by better people, and it was a mistake. He’s not a troll, and not an asshole. In my opinion he was trying a different jind of joke that happened to break the rules and be more offensive to some than desired. He definitely deserves a second chance. Please manhattan, find forgiveness in your heart if forgiveness is asked of you by Homer.
Until we know for certain that he was trying to be an asshole, can we all please refrain from trash-talking him? There will be time a-plenty for that if I am wrong.
Or, we could just blame it on demonic possession. Doesn’t he live in the haunted house?
This isn’t the first time Homer has been in trouble with the administration of this board. As for, “worse things have been posted by better people,” possibly, but mocking the people that run this place is unacceptable. This is not a democracy, nor are any free speech rights granted here. In my opinion, impersonating a mod/admin is the most serious offense one can commit here. If this is let by, then we might as well be completely unmoderated, and you all know what the usenet can be like.
Fair enough, UncleBeer. I’m not trying to criticize your decision, because I understand it. But wouldn’t you agree that Tim, while being the occasional asshole, also adds value to these boards every now and then?
I, for one, think the ban is a bit too much. Take it for what it’s worth. You KNOW I admire you guys for the job you’re doing, but I suppose it’s OK to voice my opinion every now and then as well.
Dammit! Can’t any of you people read? He’s not banned; his privileges have been suspended for one week. And I had no part in the decision; had it been up to me, he’d probably have been out of here a long time ago. Sheesh!
