I was helping him with the Highway to Heaven episode question he posted in Cafe Society.
I read quite a few of his most recent posts, and while they aren’t great, they also certainly aren’t offensive(unless of course I missed something). He actually seemed rather polite.
Why was he banned? I’m just curious since I was helping him.
Sorry, yes. I saw your join date and assumed you would’ve come across the term before. Yes, a sock (short for sock puppet) is an additional account for someone. Often used to give fake support in a debate, but I don’t know how often Rumpleforskin was in GD. It’s possible it was just someone who was banned previously trying to get back under a different name.
Yes, I’ve been on the board since 1997(AOL), but haven’t encountered the term. I spend most of my time in Cafe Society, GQ, IMHO, and MPSIMS, so I don’t know a lot of the lingo referring to the mechanics of the board.
Any official answer as to why he’s banned? If this is one of those “mind your own business things”, just tell me and I’ll shut my yapper.
I don’t know why he was banned, but he sure was an inquisitive little bugger. At least twenty new threads in the last week, and he rarely returned to his own threads. Not that that’s a bannable offense.
Could be the mods recognized his posting habits as someone they’d previously banned.
He is a poster who has registered under at least three other names this year, all as a Guest. He just hasn’t found a way to turn straw into gold that will allow him to come up with $14.95 to subscribe for a year. Poor little guy.
On the subject of TyCobb, was he disappeared for similar reasons, or just for his overall posting style? I am asking since TubaDiva brought the name up.
It does not seem so if you look at the final post in that thread, but perhaps that was it. Maybe upon further reveiw of their posting history a consensus was reached that he should be banned? It is the tone of that final post, and nothing more from the moderators on the subject that makes it mysterious to me.
When someone gets banned for misbehavior, we usually post some sort of notice and reason. Sometimes, of course, it’s obvious: “Come to this website to win a free iPod,” for instance.
When someone gets banned for trolling, they’re craving attention. Any attention will do, negative or positive. So, we usually just disappear them (and most or all of their posts) with no muss or fuss. We don’t want to give them any attention.
Therefore, please, don’t. If you need to know about a banning, please email a moderator rather than start threads that just satisfy the troll’s craving of attention.
