Why was the Godzilla thread disappeared?

In 2001 someone started a thread called Godzilla He Tastes Really Neat (Is He Made of Turtle Meat?), about canned meat marketed as ‘Godzilla meat’. Someone found the thread and asked for help buying a Godzilla toy sold by the same company. Since the original thread was from 2001, and the company that made the toy merged with another company in 2006, I told the new poster that he might have trouble finding the toy.

When I looked later, I saw that there was a new thread in GQ (Looking for Godzilla Toy) consisting of the new poster’s question and my reply – and the original thread had been disappeared.

Why was the original Godzilla meat thread sent to the cornfield? Sure, it was a zombie; but shouldn’t it have just been locked?

It wasn’t sent to the cornfield. The new posts were split off into a separate thread, which means the original thread had no new posts since (I think) 2001 and it would have fallen off the main page of the forum. I’m having trouble finding the thread now and I’ll see if I can dig it up.

I couldn’t find the thread using the SDMB search function, so I tried Google. Here it is.

I searched for ‘Godzilla’ in titles, and didn’t find it. I tried a Google search, and it only found the GQ thread.
