"Managing a vibrant online community on Discourse occasionally requires administrators to temporarily limit user activities. These situations can range from performing server maintenance, facilitating backups, or transitioning servers. During such times, it’s crucial to restrict forum activities without entirely shutting down user access.
Discourse offers various Read-Only Modes administrators can enable to temporarily freeze different types of interactions within a site."

Isn’t our administrator dead, though?
It is my understanding that the SDMB is hosted on Discourse’s servers. So if Discourse does serious maintenance on their end, they might have to put us on read-only for a couple minutes.
(Cecil_Adams was last seen in June 2023, but Ed_Zotti and various Discourse employees have admin access.)
