Clicking a link for Penn and Teller’s new show got me the following message “We at Showtime Online express our apologies; however, these pages are intended for access only from within the United States.” WTF? In the thousands of hours I have spent surfing I have never before been denied access due to my nationality. I realise that Showtime is a U.S. network however much of their original programming makes its way to an international audience (I am so looking forward to Penn and Teller’s show) so any benefits from advance publicity would certainly outweigh the minor bandwidth costs arising from foreign hits. It just seems such a cheap and cheesy thing to do in an industry hardly noted for its parsimony. (and anyone who cares enough can circumvent this with a proxy server)
That’s Bullshit!
