Why won't you tell us where you're from?

For some reason, I thought I’d go ahead and say it twice.

We’re enjoying our droplets of “sunshine” here right now.

I originally listed the city and state of my residence, but thought it was really meaningless to people. I think my current location listing gives better context for the mindless drivel I usually post.

For the record, I live just outside of Sterling, Colorado, a small but slowly growing city of about 14,000 up in the northeast corner of the state.

We lived in Coos Bay for about a year – couldn’t take any more of that Oregon Sunshine. My wife and I are both Colorado natives, where we have more than 250 days of sunshine a year. When we were in Coos Bay in February 1998 and hit Day 32 without seeing blue sky, we rented the U-Haul.

I’m coming over for dinner Monday night!

wait, no i got a plane to catch to Itatly… damn

But seriously, I list my location as Boston, when technically I live in Somerville. It’s a suburb immediately outside of the city, but for generalizations I thought it would be easier for people who are not from the area.

Yeah, for a long time I listed my location as “Suburb of Boston”.
I’m not comfortable giving the name of the small town I live in but there is enough info in my current location that anyone interested can figure out my general area with a quick Google.

Heh…after today, the doors will be locked until the Spring of 2007. :frowning:

I don’t put mine for several reasons. All of which, I believe, have been covered by other posters already.

  1. I tend to change my location as the mood strikes me and I do, from time to time, have my real location up there.
  2. For most of my posts my location is irrelevent anyway.
  3. I’ve only mentioned NY about, I dunno, a million times. It’s not a big secret.

I am the exact same person here that I am live and in person so I could just as easily use my real name and location, but where’s the fun in that?

Don’t put me in that category…you only need look at my location to see where I have lived in the past 40 years.

I do it so when I join in a discussion about Chicago or New York or Berlin or LA or Las Vegas, people will at least know that I have lived there and am not talking about what my cousin’s neighbor’s brother-in-law once told me.

Because, while I live in Andover, Minnesota, my home is a place we call The Pines - 2+ acres of an old pine plantation that surrounds us. I don’t really give a rip about Andover, but The Pines has my heart…

I’m not comfortable giving the name of the exact suburb I live in, but my location tag and post content give enough of an idea as to where I am at any particular point in time. I’m not too worried about my current location tag as it covers upwards of 2.5 million people and you’d only have a 50/50 shot at guessing what state my license plate says.
