Why would Firefox not display background colors?

I know there is some actual answer to this, but it seems to petty for GQ.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled, but I realize that a lot of the settings are saved when you do that. How can I uninstall completely? Any ideas of why Firefox would give portions of background, and load all the pictures in Boingboing, but miss all the backgrounds, including the background shading on the Dope that helps you see where posts end and start?

Check under Preferences > Colors; do you have the radio button for “Use my chosen colors” selected instead of “Always use the colors and background specified”?
