Why would my browser do this?

Sorry to gum up the board with this type of question, but …

I run IE 5.5 on a Windows 98 OS. My browser normally works OK, but it seems to have a disagreement with one of my favorite sites, the Internet Movie Database.

It just won’t load pages from that site. The best I ever get is the banner on the top of the page, but I never get the full page.

It seems to work every other place I try it.

I have tried dumping out my cache, but that hasn’t changed anything. I suspect that there is one particular file on my computer that is causing this problem.

Any ideas?

I hate to suggest something so drastic where IE is concerned ( ), but have you tried deleting your cookies? Also, you say you’ve deleted your cache, by which I take it you mean your “Temporary Internet Files.” It might be worth being sure to clear your history as well.

I’ve been working with IE for 6 months now, and I still hate every freaking minute of it, in case you can’t tell.

To sum up, here’s what I’d do:

  1. Tools | Internet Options | Delete Files | Delete all offline content | OK
  2. Tools | Internet Options | Clear History
  3. Close IE.
  4. Start | Run | c:\windows\cookies | Edit | Select All | File | Delete
  5. Reboot.

Hope this helps.

When IE won’t load a page I use Netscape & Vice Versa.

Could be that database was overloaded at the time or undergoing updating.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, KneadToKnow’s idea didn’t work and the page doesn’t load in my Netscape browser (4.7).

Perhaps this is an ISP problem? However, my ISP (Earthlink) has an ad on the IMDB homepage and that loads.

I find this all very perplexing. I can actually get to the IMDB’s help pages, but it doesn’t cover technical issues very much.
