Why would my fingers feel numb after getting hit by a frisbee?

Hopefully I’m not violating any rules here; I don’t mean to ask for medical advice. I’m just wondering what is going on.

I’ve been playing frisbee for the past few days and after being inevitably struck by the frisbee on my fingers while catching, I’ve gotten a weird sensation that I’ve never felt before. The first day, it was my index finger which got hit. It went numb and maybe a little swollen-- though not in pain-- for some 24+ hours. Then the next day, my pinkie finger got hit, and became numb for 24+ hours, but again not painful. It’s just very odd, and I’m wondering what this is about because I’ve never felt this before, and I used to play frisbee all the time.

I think you’re hitting nerves hard enough that they reduce or cease their functioning temporarily. It is certainly common in other situations (slipped disks in the lumbar spine for example) that traumatizing a nerve by crushing will temporarily make it fail to report sensation in the regions beyond the site of the crush, or report other odd sensations.
