I just received a strange spam. No “MAKE MONEY FAST” scams, or Nigerians, or Viagra, or porn…nope, this was good ol’ “slacktivism”. What’s the cause this time? Parents for a September 1 school start date. OoooooK.
I’m a bit puzzled, because, here in Minnesota, where I live, school generally starts the day after Labor Day. I think that’s fine…what’s so special about September 1? Well, perhaps this is some sort of national movement for a uniform school calendar…after all, it is kind of annoying to plan a vacation to visit relatives in a different state and then find out that their kids have school when yours don’t or vice versa. I guess. I don’t think it warrants a movement, or spam, but whatever. Or maybe it’s from some crazy people at my daughter’s school, in which case, I’d better inform them that spamming is not nice :).
Curious, I decide to click on the link to http://www.septstart.com. When I get to the website, I notice a Texas state flag graphic! Yes, folks, this is a slacktivism campaign to change the Texas school year! The nerve! What does this have to do with Minnesota? Did this silly group spam people in all 50 states to draw attention to their little cause? They probably spammed people in other countries, and people without kids!
So, anyone got this one yet?
