Why would someone prefer a black or red vehicle?

I like to stand out, so my first car was a red Honda CRX. Everyone saw me coming (including two Alabama State troopers). I drive a white ford ZX2 now, and it is just boring. I blend in too much with everybody else. I just like to stand out, which is why my next car (after graduation) will be a millienium yellow Z06 'vette

My mother, the paranoid, only bought red cars because they were more visible. It was a SAFETY thing. So was all-steel construction and heavy horse-power. Everybody on the road was out to get her, so it only made sense to 1.) show up like a stop-light, 2.) be better armored than the fool who was inevitably going to hit her and 3.) be able to maneuver away if possible.

So she bought a muscle car, a '70 Chevy Malibu–bright red, vinyl top–that she roared down highways at 55 m.p.h., peering nevously through the steering wheel and twitching for the brake. (That car would book, very engine-heavy; blow the doors off without effort.) She frustated the hell outta envious young guys and reduced traffic cops to head-shaking laughter. Nothing like a demure, white-haired little old lady running a cop-magnet, badass machine.

This is apropos of nuthin’ but just thought I’d share it anyway.

A deep aquamarine looks nice. So does silver-blue, green, and purple. Red and white are okay, but doesn’t have character. Black and brown I don’t like. Metallic colours can be nice, depending on the car.

I seriously doubt I’ll ever drive my wife’s red Infiniti G35 coupe again. I got a FUBAR ticket for speeding–when I wasn’t. Really.* With 2F2F out, I’m not even going to look at her car when it’s in the garage.

*Aside: I drive a silver Z28 mostly. No tix for FIVE YEARS! One trip to pick up take out food in my wife’s car and suddenly I’m Vin Diesel out to raid a semi to the Barney Fifes around here. In this case a Gomez, but the point stands.
