Why's everyone hate Gwyneth Paltrow?

I used to really like her. I could still watch Emma all day long.

But… she talked a little too much, then a little more, then doesn’t seem to know when to stfu. She’s smug and condescending and privileged. I’m sure she’s perfectly wonderful if you’re of her socioeconomic standing, charming in person and all that, but she’s so ridiculously out-of-touch that it makes me stabby. And it’s not just one foot-in-mouth incident, one “that quote was taken out of context” thing. It’s a constant barrage of nonsense under the guise of “helping” people.

She truly is Emma and thinks of us all as Miss Taylor, hopeless without her “help”, never realizing that she’s being a smug asshole and should just let people be.

Not one of those quotes prompts a negative reaction from me, and a few of them are kind of amusing.

Disclosure: I liked Shakespeare in Love more than Saving Private Ryan.

Let’s see:

[ol]
[li]She’s not a very good actress - Pepper Potts in the Iron Man franchise is a lightweight fluff role and Paltrow can’t even nail something simple like that.[/li][li]She’s a terrible writer - A former girlfriend used to be into her so I read a few of her items. Penthouse Forum turned down better material than the dreck that she purveys[/li][li]She’s plain - Not gorgeous or stunning. Just plain. If she was Gwen Smith on the street, I might look at her as I was scanning the area, but nothing would make my eyes on stop on her.[/li][li]She seems to be rather stupid - Not just mildly clueless, but genuinely idiotic. She seems to be unable to realize how offensive her prattle is to other people and she seemingly lacks the ability or desire to think before she speaks. It this was uncommon,I’d say that she’s tactless or thoughtless. It happens so much though that stupid is really the only sobriquet which seems to fit her.[/li][/ol]

Her gigantic feet, her total lack of sex appeal and the fact that enough stories have come out to convince me that she’s a real bitch all combine to make her a person of low interest to me.

Ditto. SiL was a smart, funny, witty, and wonderfully layered movie; SPR was the filmic equivalent of a Commando Comic.

Well, I can certainly applaud SPR as a bold and impressive cinematic visual feat and I’ve no objection whatever to the five Oscars it did win (including Best Director, Cinematography and Film Editing), but the story didn’t really grab me they way SiL’s did.

Because she has never called me once! Even after all the time I’ve spend holding her pictures up with just one hand!

I work in an office and and yep it’s easier to have a routine with family. I say this because I’ve also worked in editing in a studio for a film and it’s damn difficult to keep a regular schedule, your time is no longer your own. Thank god my husband worked in the same field at that time or he’d be pissed off that I was never home.

Gwen is privileged, but she’s getting a bad rap here. She’s being honest. There are times on a set that it goes on forever. I suppose there’s those who’d rather she shut her trap, because it grates on them that she is in the fantasy business of movies and media, she gets paid well so she needs to STFU. But there’s work involved here, and I loved her work in Shakespeare In Love, Sliding Doors, Royal Tannebaums, Talented Mr Ripley, Emma, etc.

I likes me some Gwennie, but let’s face it, I’d like to spend time with Cameron Diaz even more.

More ammo for those who want to hate Gwyneth:

Gwyneth: I’ve-got-it-harder-than-most-working-moms.html

This stood out to me. First off, because it seems an odd thing to dislike someone for. But, mostly, it’s because I’ve never heard anything about that before. So I checked up on it, and everything I can find gives her as wearing a size 9. Is that really all that big?

Well, I for one feel for her. Moms bringing up kids and working in an office just don’t know how lucky they are. OK, so Gwyneth makes millions of dollars for making one or two movies a year, OK, so she has an army of nannies and aides to assist her, is this any compensation for working 14 hours a day and sometimes having to get up really early! I don’t think so.

Those working moms should fall on their knees and thank God each night that they don’t get paid millions of dollars for making crappy movies. Paltrow is a martyr, a saint, and an inspiration for oppressed women around the world. How she has found the determination, the strength and the sheer guts to undergo such privation I don’'t know. But now that she’s had the courage to speak out perhaps something will at last be done to ease the plight and lessen the suffering of rich actresses.

We can only pray.

Jesus Christ, the only sin Gwen committed was saying that her work schedule was more difficult than 9-5ers. Never piss off a Mom because mom’s are damn martyrs, doncha know?

I think people who both know and care enough about the personal lives of actors and actresses to have a strong emotion about them must have a terrible soulless emptiness inside that cannot be assuaged. Okay, maybe not, but gee, she’s just an actress, who the hell cares what her favorite beverage is? I think she’s a blandly competent middle of the road actress, no more no less. I can barely tell all those willowy blond actresses apart.

No, not for an American woman. What would be unusual is her insisting on actually purchasing size 9 shoes rather than trying to cram her feet into something smaller.

Does she still organize illegal hobo fights? Because that’s way worse than those quotes upthread.

She’s got legs.

She seems to insist upon being barefoot in her films. When you got boots like hers you probably want to keep them under wraps. It’s her attempting to look “sexy” when she looks like a plain woman with big feet.

If she was a SEXY woman with big feet, I’d give her a pass. She’s not, so it’s just another brick in the wall….

Oh I’m sure there are. But how many days a year does she spend making movies? (Clue: in the last 6 years she’s made 7).

I admire this beautifully-composed sarcasm, aldiboronti. (And I do NOT mean that sarcastically.^_^) Well said!

All the quotes-from-Gwyneth posted so far strike me as the musings of a smug and clueless narcissist.

(And I quite liked Shakespeare in Love.)

Why does she have to choose?

Shodan
