Is anyone else still watching this? (Given the move to Saturday nighs, it wouldn’t totally surprise me to find out the answer was “no.”)
I was rather surprised last night to find out I don’t hate Darlene as much as I thought I did. Damn, did she pull out the stops on the snacks, or what? (They were right, though – way too much food.)
Why did the other team let Margo do the cooking? Why didn’t someone taste the damn soup before she served it, to make sure a) it was hot enough, and b) it tasted like something? And having read the egg-poaching thread the other day, I knew about the vinegar and the ramekin, which I wouldn’t have, otherwise – I don’t present myself as any kind of cook, though, and I’d’ve definitely had to ask for help or look at Joy of Cooking before trying to poach an egg.
Loved the shot of the four of them goofing around in the kitchen – “we didn’t want to hover” – heh.
All four wreaths from the losing team were pretty damn ugly – did we see the other team’s wreaths?
Also – Candace’s husband – can we assume they gave him some breakfast, or did he have to take the dog and head to McDonalds?
On the other hand, there are people like Darleen who can cook anything without a recipe! Some of the worst cooks however kept poohpoohing her culinary suggestions.
um yeah wasn’t margo the one the week with the camping trip, had to have her way with the Americana cuisine and then it wasn’t even cooked? I have to admit that the camp looked great with her pushing through that part. I wanted to have one of their tents and beds. It looked decadent.
I was shocked by the contrast between the fancy foods prepared by Darlene (even if it was overboard for the number of guests being served) and the one kind of simple, bland and not hot enough soup. I also was surprised by the fact that Darlene seemed to settle in to the kitchen fairly quickly, and it took longer for the other team to think about food. I couldn’t have poached an egg- but I kind of thought offering to cook nit-picky judges eggs any style was a BAD idea. (The whole notion of offering to cook something to order and in three different style seemed to permit the opportunity to make multiple things go wrong. And as it turned out, the fried egg was inedible, and the poached egg earned them a quick lesson in poaching eggs.) I also thought that Margo should have allowed someone else to help with the cooking of the eggs- let them share the burden if things didn’t go right.
