Wife Swap 11/21

Does anyone watch this show? I don’t watch it - but caught this episode today on a rerun.

The couples were Blackburn and Johnson. OMIGOD I couldn’t believe this Rebecca woman. She sleeps in until around 9:00, gets up eats breakfast that her hubby (Tony) makes, then he does the dishes while she works at their home business for a while, then she goes and watches soaps all afternoon while he does the administrative stuff for the business. She spends no time with her daughter, takes no interest in her daughters hobbies, and the two parents weigh over 300 lbs each (the dad weighs 375). They swapped with a fitness crazy couple. The fit wife – Lin was actually really cool. She noticed that the browbeaten husband, Tony was just completely emasculated, so she tried to empower him. She made him go to the doctor where the doc explained he was cruising for a heart attack (his dad had died from one). She got him to go back to his earlier career (being an on-air DJ) and hired a temp to do the admin stuff. Then she started him exercising and eating healthier. Lin also took an interest in the daughter and helped her with her cheerleading. The husband was offered a new DJ job that he really seemed excited about.

Rebecca did nothing. She said she prided herself on how her house was 50/50, but she didn’t do anything! When she swapped she had a bad attitude from the start. She went the first day to work out, then said she was “ill”. She sat on her a** the rest of the time and did nothing but watch soaps. This guy trains the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, she could’ve at least gotten an autograph for her kid (who really likes cheerleading)! Nothing. When it was done, she pouted and refused to participate at the end during the discussion. When she got home she went back to the way things were and began discouraging her hubby from exercising. She talks all the time about how she “wants to really live life and not be boring” but all she does is sit around.

She was in such denial I wanted to go into the TV and smack her! She just can not see how she is ruining her family, with her own self-absorbed attitude. AHHHHH

I thought I was going to dislike the other couple, but they actually said they learned to loosen up and spend more time with their kid and work harder at keeping business seperate from romance.

I wish I knew these people so I could tell Tony to save himself and his kids and let her go down with the ship!

I’m still watching. Great recap you did there.

Rebecca’s got the worst case of denial that they’ve ever had on one of these shows. Usually both couples take something away from the experiment, but she kept her blinders on throughout.

I wonder if she’s really sick, or depressed. She seemed to have absolutely no energy, even for thinking.

This was the first time really that I can remember where one of the participants learned absolutely nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Nuttin. Rebecca is the uber-passive-aggressive me-snob solipsist who thinks that all those bipedal creatures out there are products of her imagination — obstacles to her getting on with her life. The only life on earth. I don’t understand her husband, unless he has resigned himself to being an insignificant and worthless doormat. I could not bear to live with her.

Rebecca was a horrible, horrible woman, and poor Tony was as pussywhipped as I’ve ever seen on TV, I do believe.

I hear that the participants in this show get $20,000 per family, and I sure wish the producers had withheld Rebecca’s $20,000 – or given it to Tony with instructions not to spend it till he was far, far away from that emasculating bitch!

I felt bad for Tony. Obviously his life pretty much sucks and it is all because of his wife. She’s a shrew. Shes got a fat girl complex. Her self-image is so damaged that she heaps this attitude of superiority on herself and has to drag everything down with her.

I however thought the husband of the other family was a complete asshole and has the social skills of a 14 year old boy.

I missed it last week! Sounds like a good one; maybe they’ll re-air it.

The TV Guide cap for tomorrow’s sounds promising:

Yep, I’ll be watching. My guess: the devout disbeliever won’t budge, and the Bible-study mom will pray over it and decide to show a bit more respect for her heathen brethren.

I watch this show, and I saw that episode. I couldn’t believe what a self-absorbed bitch Rebecca was!

I hope Tony grows some balls and takes care of his own health, for the sake of his kids at least. But Rebecca will be there undercutting his efforts for sure.

The fitness husband was a lot over the top towards Rebecca, but like the OP said, he at least learned something. I liked Lin a lot. She actually tried to do some good.

The atheist dad posted over on TWOP in the show thread, and surprise surprise, before it even airs he’s claiming the editing is very deceptive! So that leads me to believe he isn’t shown in the best of lights. We shall see.

My favorite part was when Tony was describing to the temp the job his wife insisted he had to stay home & do.
(paraphrasing)
Tony: Well you put the products in the box and ship it to the address on the order.
Temp Guy: That’s it?
Sweet. I pity Tony a lot.
