Yes, I do use drop box, but I was thinking it might be handy to share files where wifi isn’t available. Maybe I’m just looking to impress my less technical friends?
Is the idea that you’re going to plug it into an electrical socket using an adapter? Or into a computer that doesn’t have a wifi radio?
Because if you’re plugging it into a computer that could connect to wifi, you can just use that computer to create an ad hoc wifi network and share that way.
Could be that the software in this thing is fancy and makes the whole thing easy. I’d bet against that, but I don’t have any specific knowledge of this product.
Check that your router doesn’t have a USB port already.
Sandisk is a fine brand. But it sounds like the “even your phone can access it!” feature is overblown, as I’d think you can do that anyway. At worst you’d have to install an app like ES File Browser instead of the native file browser.
My goal was to make up for the small memory on my work phone so I can take more than one movie for airplane flights. Haven’t had a chance to test out battery life, but the app interface works easily enough. My wife and I were both able to connect and watch different movies at the same time – no lag or buffering issues.
