I just read http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a1_270a.html - in which Cecil explains that wigmakers rarely buy human hair from people who keep theirs clean because it’s too brittle. Last winter I donated my hair to Locks of Love. I’m a relatively clean person, as seemed the other people who were donating… What’s the deal, did my hair really go towards making a wig for someone or was it all a scam?
Locks of Love is probably not an outright scam, but in November 2003 they did not meet the Better Business Bureau’s standards for charity accountability, FWIW.
