Well, last night the Wilco album leaked and so the band went ahead and threw up a stream onto their website. Click on the “Wilco (The Stream)” icon on the lower left.
I’m about halfway through right now and I’m really digging it. Can’t wait to get the actual album and listen to it on a good stereo.
Also, I really like the album art. It’s playful and fun. Love how the camel’s back makes a “W.” Maybe they’re trying to show that they don’t take themselves so seriously (as with the inclusion of “Wilco (the song)” from The Colbert Report.
Anyway, thought I’d share and see what everyone else thought of it.
For some reason, I’ve always had trouble streaming stuff from the Wilco website. I don’t know if my QuickTime isn’t configured right or what. I’ll have to check this out when I get home tonight and see if I have any better luck this time. Thanks for the tip!
A friend had that same issue when I sent the direct link to them. Also, I had the problem when I paused it and then tried to restart it. I had to go back to the main page and start fresh - but it would let me skip to where I’d been.
Not that anyone cares but my initial opinion: sounds pretty good. Not as enjoyable on first listen as Sky Blue Sky (which I absolutely fell in love with), but I’ll definitely kick the tires on this album.
I’ve listened to it 5 times now, and I like the fact that it seems like the logical progression from A Ghost is Born and Sky Blue Sky. There are definitely elements from both albums, but I always expect something new and interesting from Mr. Tweedy et al, and this album feels very much like its own entity. I’m going to have to listen to several more times to unpack everything, but this is going to be an excellent summer album.
